چکیده

Using in-situ measured data from Qiyi Glacier, in combination with meteorological and runoff data from stations, a distributed degree-day model was developed for 631 investigated glaciers in the Beida River catchment to explore glacier mass change and its effect on streamflow. The results showed that the average mass balance was −272 ± 67 mm w.e. a, with an ice loss of 3.99 Gt during 1957– 2013. Assuming a continuous linear trend, equilibrium line altitude rose by 242 m. Compared with morpho-topographic variables, climatic control is a more important factor affecting glacier change. Mass-balance sensitivity to air temperature was −239 mm w.e.°C a, while to precipitation it was +1.1 mm w.e. mm a. That is, a 210 mm increase in precipitation would be needed to compensate for the net mass loss induced by an air temperature increase of 1°C. Average annual glacier meltwater runoff was 1.51 × 10 m from 1957 to 2013, accounting for 15.2% of surface runoff. The time series of meltwater runoff changed abruptly in 2000, and its contribution to surface runoff increased from 13.9 to

The impact of an urbanizing tropical watershed to the surface -runoff

The lack of hydrological data for urbanizing watersheds in developing countries is one of the challenges facing decision making. Msimbazi River is located in the city center of Dar es Salaam and is highly influenced by human activities; this includes dense populations that are characterized by informal settlements. The catchment is currently undergoing flooding, which triggers a dilemma in its ...

Effect of dust event timing on glacier runoff : sensitivity analysis for a Tibetan glacier

The impact of the timing of dust deposition on glacier runoff was evaluated using a glacier mass–balance model with a newly improved scheme to track a dusted layer in a snow layer of a glacier. The lowering of surface albedo due to the dusted layer appearing leads to a drastic increase of glacier runoff even under the same meteorological conditions. Calculations of seasonal sensitivity, the rel...

The effect of Urban Development on Watershed Hydrological Properties (case study: Tajrish Watershed)

The effect of Urban Development on Watershed Hydrological Properties (case study: Tajrish Watershed) Throughout the human history, societies and rivers have been closely linked, so that the human civilization began from the riverside (Stevaux et al. 2009 (. The quantitative and qualitative characteristic of river is vulnerable to land-use changes (Kang et al. 2010). Natural and urban watershed...

The effect of sand mulch on runoff and erosion control of the catchment surface

Due to population growth, global warming, changing precipitation patterns, and decreasing precipitation, water and soil are two of the most important human issues. Water and soil resources management in arid and semi-arid regions is one of the methods that can solve water and soil issues. Covering the soil surface with permeable natural materials can reduce water and wind erosion and evaporatio...

Modeling Glacier Mass Balance and Runoff in the Koxkar River Basin on the South Slope of the Tianshan Mts. during 1959 to 2009, China

Water resources provided by alpine glaciers are an important pillar for people living in the arid regions in the west of China. In this study, the HBV (Hydrologiska Byrans Vattenavdelning) light model was applied to simulate glacier mass balance and runoff in the Koxkar River Basin (KRB) on the south slope of Mt. Tumur, western Tianshan Mts.. Daily temperature and precipitation were calculated ...
