چکیده

In the Bayesian modelling the data and the prior information concerning a certain parameter of interest may conflict, in the sense that the information carried by them disagree. The most common form of conflict is the presence of outlying information in the data, which may potentially lead to wrong posterior conclusions. To prevent this problemwe use robust models which aim to control the influence of the atypical information in the posterior distribution. Roughly speaking, we conveniently use heavy-tailed distributions in the model in order to resolve conflicts in favour of those sources of information which we believe is more credible. The class of heavytailed distributions is quite wide and the literature have been concerned in establishing conditions on the data and prior distributions in order to reject the outlying information. In thisworkwe focus on the subexponential andL classes of heavy-tailed distributions, in which we establish sufficient conditions under which the posterior distribution automatically rejects the conflicting information.

Subexponential Distributions

We survey the properties and uses of the class of subexponential probability distributions, paying particular attention to their use in modelling heavy-tailed data such as occurs in insurance and queueing applications. We give a detailed summary of the core theory and discuss subexponen-tiality in various contexts including extremes, random walks and L evy processes with negative drift, and sum...

On Classification of Bivariate Distributions Based on Mutual Information

Among all measures of independence between random variables, mutual information is the only one that is based on information theory. Mutual information takes into account of all kinds of dependencies between variables, i.e., both the linear and non-linear dependencies. In this paper we have classified some well-known bivariate distributions into two classes of distributions based on their mutua...

Information and Covariance Matrices for Multivariate Pareto (IV), Burr, and Related Distributions

Main result of this paper is to derive the exact analytical expressions of information and covariance matrix for multivariate Pareto, Burr and related distributions. These distributions arise as tractable parametric models in reliability, actuarial science, economics, finance and telecommunications. We showed that all the calculations can be obtained from one main moment multidimensional integr...

Subexponential Asymptotics of the Stationary Distributions of GI/G/1-Type Markov Chains

2 This paper considers the subexponential asymptotics of the stationary distributions of GI/G/1-type Markov chains in two cases: (i) the phase transition matrix in non-boundary levels is stochastic; and (ii) it is strictly substochastic. For the case (i), we present a weaker sufficient condition for the subexponential asymptotics than those given in the literature. As for the case (ii), the sub...

Modelling of the spatial distribution of the rare plant Lilium ledebourii

The aim of this study was modelling the spatial distribution ofLilium ledebourii (Baker) Boiss. based on ecological characteristics, in order to predict potential habitats for conservation of a rare plant. Knowledge of the spatial distributions of rare and threatened species and the underlying ecological factors plays an important role in regional conservation assessments and development planni...
