Epidemic detection using CUSUM
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the problem of detecting a proportional change in the intensity of a counting process with a continuous compensator. We prove that if the counting process does not have explosions, the CUSUM test is optimal in a Lorden sense. In particular, the CUSUM test minimizes the worst-case conditional expected number of events that occur after the change and before raising an alarm given the worst possible history up to the time of the change. We apply this result to the detection of the onset of epidemics and we discuss modifications of the optimal detection rule when the processes of interest are monitored in discrete times.

Epidemic features affecting the performance of outbreak detection algorithms
BACKGROUND Outbreak detection algorithms play an important role in effective automated surveillance. Although many algorithms have been designed to improve the performance of outbreak detection, few published studies have examined how epidemic features of infectious disease impact on the detection performance of algorithms. This study compared the performance of three outbreak detection algorit...
متن کاملChange-Point Detection in Binomial Thinning Processes, with Applications in Epidemiology
Most of the classical change-point detection schemes are designed for the sequences of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables. In this article, motivated by the outbreak of 2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza, we develop change-point detection procedures for the susceptible–infected–recovered (SIR) epidemic model, where a change-point in the infection rate parameter signifie...
متن کاملEarly Detection of Dysentery Outbreaks by Cumulative Sum Method Based on National Surveillance System Data in 1393-1396
Background and Objectives: Correct and timely detection of the outbreaks of diseases with a short incubation period is of great importance in the health system. The aim of this study was to determine the detection of dysentery outbreaks using the cumulative sum method. Methods: This time series study was conducted using the data of the National Surveillance System between 2014 and 2017. The...
متن کاملAnomaly Detection Based on a Multi-class CUSUM Algorithm for WSN
Security is one of the most important research issues in wireless sensor networks (WSN) applications. Given that the single detection threshold of the cumulative sum (CUSUM) algorithm causes longer detection delays and a lower detection rate, a multi-class CUSUM algorithm is hereby proposed. Firstly a maximum and minimum thresholds, which sensor nodes are able to reach during sending packet, ar...
متن کاملارزشیابی عملکرد الگوریتم مجموع تراکمی در کشف طغیان
Background & Objectives: Timely response to emerging diseases and outbreaks are a major public health and health systems priority. There are few published studies that evaluate the performance of cumulative sum (CUSUM) on identical data using semi- synthetic simulation approach. This study was undertaken to determine the performance of the CUSUM in timely detection of 831 days of simulated outb...
