Energy, Transmission Power and Data Rate Aware Routing on Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
Resumo Modern wireless networks can vary both the transmission power and modulation of links. Existing routing protocols do not take transmission power control (TPC) and modulation adaptation (also known as rate adaptation – RA) into account, even though the performance of MANETs can be significantly improved when routing algorithms use link characteristics to build their routes. TPC unaware routing consumes more energy and increases contention, reducing latency and the throughput of the network. Similarly, RA-unaware routes use low data rate links, increasing the utilization of the medium. This paper proposes and evaluates modifications to routing protocols to cope with TPC and RA. The modifications can be applied to either proactive or reactive protocols that employ cost functions. We present an analytical model of end-to-end energy consumption and latency for multi-hop MANETs, which is used to justify the design decisions taken in our routing extensions. Results show that TPC-and RA-aware routing algorithms can improve the end-to-end throughput by up to 30% and the average latency by up to one order of magnitude, while consuming less energy than traditional protocols.

Energy Efficient Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by Using Honey Bee Mating Optimization
Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of mobile stations communicating through wireless links, without any fixed backbone support. In these networks, limited power energy supply, and frequent topology changes caused by node mobility, makes their routing a challenging problem. Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are multi-hop wireless networks in which all nodes cooperatively maintain network connectivity. In such a multi-hop wireless network, every node may be required to perform routing in order to achieve end-to-end communication among nodes. These networks are energy constrained as most ad hoc mobile nodes today operate with limited battery power. Hence, it is import...
متن کاملAn On-Demand Energy-Efficient Routing Algorithm for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are non-infrastructure networks which consist of mobile nodes. Since the mobile nodes have limited battery power, it is very important to use energy efficiently in ad hoc networks. In order to maximize the lifetime of ad hoc networks, traffic should be sent via a route that can be avoid nodes with low energy while minimizing the total transmission power. In addition, considering...
