Modeling Basic Aspects of Cyber-Physical Systems

چکیده
Designing novel cyber-physical systems entails significant, costly physical experimentation. Simulation tools can enable the virtualization of experiments. Unfortunately, current tools have shortcomings that limit their utility for virtual experimentation. Language research can be especially helpful in addressing many of these problems. As a first step in this direction, we consider the question of determining what language features are needed to model cyber-physical systems. Using a series of elementary examples of cyber-physical systems, we reflect on the extent to which a small, experimental domainspecific formalism called Acumen suffices for this purpose.

An Effective Attack-Resilient Kalman Filter-Based Approach for Dynamic State Estimation of Synchronous Machine
Kalman filtering has been widely considered for dynamic state estimation in smart grids. Despite its unique merits, the Kalman Filter (KF)-based dynamic state estimation can be undesirably influenced by cyber adversarial attacks that can potentially be launched against the communication links in the Cyber-Physical System (CPS). To enhance the security of KF-based state estimation, in this paper...

Model-based tools have the potential to significantly improve the process of developing novel cyber-physical systems (CPS). In this paper, we consider the question of what language features are needed to model such systems. We use a small, experimental hybrid systems modeling language to show how a number of basic and pervasive aspects of cyber-physical systems can be modeled concisely using th...
متن کاملModeling security in cyber-physical systems
This paper describes a framework for modeling the security of a cyber–physical system in which the behavior of the adversary is controlled by a threat model that captures – in a unified manner – the cyber aspects (with discrete values) and the physical aspects (with continuous values) of the cyber–physical system. In particular, the framework addresses combined (dependent) vector attacks and sy...
متن کاملModeling Basic Aspects of Cyber-Physical Systems, Part II
We continue to consider the question of what language features are needed to effectively model cyber-physical systems (CPS). In previous work, we proposed using a core language as a way to study this question, and showed how several basic aspects of CPS can be modeled clearly in a language with a small set of constructs. This paper reports on the result of our analysis of two, more complex, cas...
متن کاملApproaches to Modeling and Simulation for Dynamic, Distributed Cyber-Physical Systems
In this paper we discuss challenges and new directions in modeling and simulation for effects-based what-if and sensitivity analysis of dynamic, distributed cyber-physical systems. We are motivated on one hand by the critical need to reliably understand how mission-critical cyber-physical systems would respond to unanticipated effects, and on the other hand by the technology gap that has preven...
