چکیده

Image stabilization is the image registration applied to one video image sequence from a single camera, which has been identified as the key first step for the task of multispectral image fusion for aerial surveillance applications. The stabilization of infra-red (IR) aerial image sequences is challenging owing to the low contrast and signal-tonoise ratio of the images, and to potentially large viewpoint changes that result in images with large rotation and scale change and perspective distortion. We demonstrate a new feature-based method for IR aerial image sequence stabilization. We use the greylevel differential invariant (GDI) matching due to Schmid and Mohr which is invariant to rotation and scaling. Extensions to the basic GDI method are introduced that improve the performance of the method. We use Mestimation for the image registration parameters. The method is robust to outliers returned by the GDI method. We verify the point correspondence under orthographic projection using the epipolar constraint. Experimental results are reported for real-world and synthesized IR image sequences.

Moving Object Detection and Tracking in Forward Looking Infra-Red Aerial Imagery

This chapter discusses the challenges of automating surveillance and reconnaissance tasks for infra-red visual data obtained from aerial platforms. These problems have gained significant importance over the years, especially with the advent of lightweight and reliable imaging devices. Detection and tracking of objects of interest has traditionally been an area of interest in the computer vision...

Control, navigation and collision avoidance for an unmanned aerial vehicle

This article reports the development of an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of attitude estimation and stabilization through the implementation of a nonlinear complementary filter and proportional-integral rate controllers. Four infra-red sensors and an ultrasonic sensor are integrated with the main platform for the collision avoidance schemes and for altitude control, respectively. Critical mis...

Integrated Position Estimation Using Aerial Image Sequences

This paper presents an integrated system for navigation parameter estimation using sequential aerial images, where navigation parameters represent the position and velocity information of an aircraft for autonomous navigation. The proposed integrated system is composed of two parts: relative position estimation and absolute position estimation. Relative position estimation recursively computes ...

Structural Indexing of Infra-red Images using Statistical Histogram Comparison

This paper aims to develop simple statistical methods for indexing into an aerial image database using a cartographic model. The images contain severe distortions due to the acquisition process and the data cannot be recovered by applying a simple Euclidean transform to the model. The underlying representation of the infra-red image map within the database is based on histograms of line-segment...

Detecting Moving Objects in Airborne Forward Looking Infra-Red Sequences

In this paper we propose a system that detects independently moving objects (IMOs) in forward looking infra-red (FLIR) image sequences taken from an airborne, moving platform. Ego-motion effects are removed through a robust multi-scale affine image registration process. Consequently, areas with residual motion indicate object activity. These areas are detected, refined and selected using a Baye...
