Registration-Based Approach for Reconstruction of High-Resolution In Utero Fetal MR Brain Images1

چکیده
Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice for the screening evaluation of the developing fetal brain. However, once an abnormality is suspected by routine prenatal ultrasound, further evaluation with MRI is indicated (1,2). Indeed, fetal MRI can detect additional abnormalities not detectable by prenatal ultrasound, including gyral and sulcal abnormalities (2–6). MRI allows for excellent tissue contrast and spatial resolution, uses no ionizing radiation, permits imaging in

Registration-based approach for reconstruction of high-resolution in utero fetal MR brain images.
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES This paper describes a novel approach to forming high-resolution MR images of the human fetal brain. It addresses the key problem of fetal motion by proposing a registration-refined compounding of multiple sets of orthogonal fast two-dimensional MRI slices, which are currently acquired for clinical studies, into a single high-resolution MRI volume. MATERIALS AND METHO...
متن کاملAtlas-Based Segmentation of the Germinal Matrix from in Utero Clinical MRI of the Fetal Brain
Recently developed techniques for reconstruction of high-resolution 3D images from fetal MR scans allows us to study the morphometry of developing brain tissues in utero. However, existing adult brain analysis methods cannot be directly applied as the anatomy of the fetal brain is significantly different in terms of geometry and tissue morphology. We describe an approach to atlas-based segmenta...
متن کاملSuper-resolution Reconstruction of Fetal Brain MRI
Current fetal MRI practice involves fast 2D slice acquisitions. The reconstruction of volumetric fetal brain MRI from these acquisitions and its post-processing is greatly desired for studying in-utero brain development. The previously developed reconstruction techniques rely on iterations of slice-tovolume registration and scattered data interpolation. In contrast, the technique introduced her...

متن کامل3D Reconstruction in Canonical Co-ordinate Space from Arbitrarily Oriented 2D Images
Limited capture range and the requirement to provide high quality initialisation for optimisation-based 2D/3D image registration methods can significantly degrade the performance of 3D image reconstruction and motion compensation pipelines. Challenging clinical imaging scenarios, which contain significant subject motion such as fetal in-utero imaging, complicate the 3D image and volume reconstr...
