Recent Activities in the MERCI Conferencing Project

This paper outlines the advances made in the MERCI multimedia conferencing Project during its first year. It describes the improvements made in the basic media tools and highlights the advances made in session control and announcement. Attention has been paid to porting the tools to PCs and to interworking between the Mbone and ITU-T protocol suites. Mechanisms for incorporating security in all the tools, and of deploying secure conferencing, have been implemented. The advances are described both to obtaining higher quality by better tools and faster networks, and being able to support conferencing over the ISDN. The activities on integrating media servers are mentioned. Finally some of the work on User feedback, user support and applications are
