چکیده

Stereotypy is the narrowing down of an animal’s behavioural repertoire. Starting from normal behaviour there is a continuum between rich and free behaviour on the one hand, and dull and Ž predictable stereotypies on the other. To study the continuum all that one needs are ‘‘knobs’’ like . drugs or stress that shift the behaviour from one end to the other, and a method for documenting the behavioural shift. The degree of narrowing down of the animal’s repertoire is measurable in terms of the number of ‘‘collective variables’’ available to the animal, the range of values each collective variable can take, and the predictability of sequences of movements. We substantiate this thesis by presenting examples taken from the normal and drug-induced behaviour of the rat. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Modelling personality, plasticity and predictability in shelter dogs

Behavioural assessments of shelter dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) typically comprise standardized test batteries conducted at one time point, but test batteries have shown inconsistent predictive validity. Longitudinal behavioural assessments offer an alternative. We modelled longitudinal observational data on shelter dog behaviour using the framework of behavioural reaction norms, partitioning ...

Dynamical Phenotyping: Using Temporal Analysis of Clinically Collected Physiologic Data to Stratify Populations

Using glucose time series data from a well measured population drawn from an electronic health record (EHR) repository, the variation in predictability of glucose values quantified by the time-delayed mutual information (TDMI) was explained using a mechanistic endocrine model and manual and automated review of written patient records. The results suggest that predictability of glucose varies wi...

Phenotyping, association analysis and annotation of genes related to leaf wilting of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at the seedling stage under drought stress conditions

Rapid screening of plant germplasm in the early stages of growth and determining the genetic basis of wheat leaf wilting index at the seedling stage is necessary for wheat breeding programs. In the present research, leaf wilting index for 290 Iranian bread wheat genotypes, including; 90 cultivars and 200 landraces were studied under drought stress conditions at the seedling stage in 2021 in res...

Individual variation in exploratory behaviour improves speed and accuracy of collective nest selection by Argentine ants.

Collective behaviours are influenced by the behavioural composition of the group. For example, a collective behaviour may emerge from the average behaviour of the group's constituents, or be driven by a few key individuals that catalyse the behaviour of others in the group. When ant colonies collectively relocate to a new nest site, there is an inherent trade-off between the speed and accuracy ...
