TCP/IP Manufacturing Applications : an experiment with MMS over RPC
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) is the main application protocol of the MAP communication standard architecture. MMS covers the most important functions needed in manufacturing applications. It was initially designed to rely on an ISO protocol stack, but the OSI layering allows to consider MMS by itself, independently of its standard profile. As Internet protocols are wide spread de facto standards, trying to implement MMS over the TCP/IP stack is a practical and important issue. We have developed an original approach that tries to use the best features of the TCP/IP environment and the functional advantages of MMS standard. This solution uses the efficient SUN Microsystem's RPC to perform MMS client-server interactions and the ASN1-BER transcoding to realize presentation layer functions. A prototype implementation is described. Open issues related to micro kernels and object oriented operating systems are introduced as future works.

Distributed Agents For Remote Service Reconstruction In Field-bus and IP networks
Computing IP networks use the TCP/IP protocol extensively for connection-oriented service access, and UDP/IP is used for best-effort connectionless data transfer. Commonly used RPC mechanisms like Java RMI, IIOP and CORBA use TCP/IP which has connection set-up and management overheads. For systems with high speed and high frequency RPC (Remote Procedure Calls), connection management overheads c...

RFC 1831 [Srinivasan 1995a] describes Sun RPC which was designed for client-server communication in the Sun NFS network file system. Sun RPC is sometimes called ONC (Open Network Computing) RPC. Sun RPC is supplied as a part of the various Sun UNIX operating systems and is also available with other NFS installations. Implementers have the choice of using remote procedure calls over either UDP/I...
متن کاملTcp/ip over Atm - Performance Evaluation and Optimisation
The integration of TCP/IP and ATM is a challenging architectural issue in today’s global networks, where the unique properties of ATM technology can be combined with the TCP/IP mature and well-proven protocol suite. A rigorous characterisation of the performance of TCP/IP over ATM can be a powerful tool for the efficient use of both technologies. TCP error and flow control mechanisms were desig...

Previously the authors gave an overview of a Delay Tolerant Network Convergence Layer implementation that operates over Connected Mode AX.25, and detailed the results of some performance tests using it to transfer data over Amateur Radio channels. These results were compared to both a native AX.25 and a TCP/IPover-AX.25 implementation. The investigation of TCP/IP was undertaken because, while i...
