چکیده

This study addresses the problem of constructing an adequate strategy for multiagent scheduling in situations with high uncertainty and inconsistent goals. An automatic scheduling agent with adjustable autonomy builds the preliminary schedule and assists the human agents in modifying the schedule towards their specific goals. The degree of autonomy of an automatic agent is controlled via the syntax limitations on formulas, which are the basis of reasoning about the mental states of the other (human) agents. Autonomy adjustment therefore could be implemented during the scheduling session. We use the reasoning tool of metalanguage support (MS) with the embedded metapredicates of mental state and action to provide the automatic agent with the ability to model the human agents with various degrees of reflection. This tool gains the inference flexibility to represent the formal scenarios of multiagent interaction. Such MS capabilities as reasoning about action and change, belief, and temporal reasoning are illustrated by the scheduling system for the broadcast advertising industry. The automatic, incremental, interactive and multiagent modes of the automatic agent demonstrate the increasing complexity of the scheduler operation.

Real-time supply chain control via multi-agent adjustable autonomy

Real time supply chain management in a rapidly changing environment requires reactive and dynamic collaboration among participating entities. In this work, we model supply chain as a multi agent system where agents are subject to an adjustable autonomy. The autonomy of an agent refers to its capability and capacity to make decisions within a multi-agent system. Adjustable autonomy means changin...

Generation scheduling in a competitive environment

Electric power restructuring offers a major change to the vertically integrated monopoly. The change manifests the main part of engineers’ efforts to reshape the three components of today’s vertically integrated monopoly: generation, distribution and transmission. In a restructured environment, the main tasks of these three components will remain the same as before, however, to comply with ...

Managing Control, Convenience and Autonomy - A Study of Agent Autonomy in Intelligent Environments

There are many arguments for and against the use of autonomous-agents in ambient intelligence and intelligent environments. Some researchers maintain that it is vital to restrict autonomy of agents so that users have complete control over the system; whereas, many others maintain that there is a greater benefit to be gained by employing autonomous-agents to take some of the work load off the us...

A Hybrid Approach for Fuzzy Just-In-Time Flow Shop Scheduling with Limited Buffers and Deteriorating Jobs

This paper investigates the problem of just-in-time permutation flow shop scheduling with limited buffers and linear job deterioration in an uncertain environment. The fuzzy set theory is applied to describe this situation. A novel mixed-integer nonlinear program is presented to minimize the weighted sum of fuzzy earliness and tardiness penalties. Due to the computational complexities, the prop...
