Stable Reduction and Topological Invariants of Complex Polynomials

چکیده
A topological invariant of a polynomial map p : X → B from a complex surface containing a curve C ⊂ X to a one-dimensional base is given by a rational second homology class in the compactification of the moduli space of genus g curves with n labeled points Mg,n. Here the generic fibre of p has genus g and intersects C in n points. In this paper we give an efficient method to calculate this homology class. We apply this to any polynomial in two complex variables p : C → C where the n points on a fibre are its points at infinity.

Invariance of the barycentric subdivision of a simplicial complex
In this paper we prove that a simplicial complex is determined uniquely up to isomorphism by its barycentric subdivision as well as its comparability graph. We also put together several algebraic, combinatorial and topological invariants of simplicial complexes.
متن کاملHigher rank numerical ranges of rectangular matrix polynomials
In this paper, the notion of rank-k numerical range of rectangular complex matrix polynomials are introduced. Some algebraic and geometrical properties are investigated. Moreover, for ϵ > 0; the notion of Birkhoff-James approximate orthogonality sets for ϵ-higher rank numerical ranges of rectangular matrix polynomials is also introduced and studied. The proposed denitions yield a natural genera...
متن کاملTopological Equivalence in Families of Complex Polynomials
We show that two polynomials, joined by a continuous family of polynomial functions fs : C n → C of constant degree and with isolated singularities, are topologically equivalent if n 6= 3 and if two numerical invariants are constant in the family: the number of vanishing cycles and the number of atypical values.
متن کاملTopological BF theories in 3 and 4 dimensions
In this paper we discuss topological BF theories in 3 and 4 dimensions. Observables are associated to ordinary knots and links (in 3 dimensions) and to 2‐knots (in 4 dimensions). The vacuum expectation values of such observables give a wide range of invariants. Here we consider mainly the 3 dimensional case, where these invariants include Alexander polynomials, HOMFLY polynomials and Kontsevich...
