Craniotomy Flap Bone Cement Infections

چکیده
Introduction Kryptonite® is calcium triglyceride bone cement designed for cranial use. Despite potential benefits, Kryptonite® lacks safety data addressing its possible association with post-surgical wound infections. Upon noting an acute rise in the number of post-craniotomy infections while using Kryptonite Bone Cement®, we investigated the hypothesis that using Kryptonite® increases the risk of post-craniotomy wound infection.

Preservation of bone flap after craniotomy infection.
INTRODUCTION The estimated incidence of craniotomy infection is 5%, ranging from 1-11% depending on the presence of certain risk factors, such as, prior radiation therapy, repeated surgery, CSF leak, duration of surgery over 4h, interventions involving nasal sinuses and emergency surgeries. The standard treatment for infected craniotomies is bone flap discarding and delayed cranioplasty. Adequa...
متن کاملTuberculous osteomyelitis of the bone flap following craniotomy for a glioma.
A patient of tuberculous osteomyelitis of the bone flap following craniotomy for acute subdural hemorrhage which was treated at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER) from June 2010 has been reported. This report emphasizes the fact that while treating osteomyelitis of bone flap following craniotomy, possibility of tuberculosis should be considered, especially in our...
متن کاملCosmetic Frontotemporal Craniotomy Using an Osteotome: Technical Note
A frontotemporal craniotomy is usually performed using a "keyhole," made at the union of the zygomatic arch and frontal bone. Consequently, skull depression may occur postoperatively, leading to temporal area deformities and poor cosmetic results. To prevent these complications, we describe our technique for frontotemporal craniotomy using an osteotome to prevent cosmetic deformities. After the...
متن کاملDysfunction of the temporalis muscle after pterional craniotomy for intracranial aneurysms. Comparative, prospective and randomized study of one flap versus two flaps dieresis.
Patients with intracranial aneurysm(s) of the carotid artery territory, treated with pterional craniotomy, were prospectively and randomly addressed to one layer flap (n = 36) or myocutaneous (MC) versus two layers' dieresis (n = 32) or interfascial (IF). The study protocol included the patient's sex, age, area of craniotomy, time of flap dieresis and synthesis, time of bone dieresis and synthe...
متن کاملHydroxyapatite cement in craniofacial skeletal reconstruction and its effects on the developing craniofacial skeleton.
OBJECTIVE To assess the effects of hydroxyapatite cement (HAC) on the developing feline craniofacial skeleton. DESIGN Fronto-orbital craniotomies were performed on 14 kittens and reconstructed by autograft or HAC. By design, animals in which the craniofacial skeleton was reconstructed with HAC also underwent obliteration of the left frontal sinus. After achievement of skeletal maturity, anima...
