چکیده

Kulldorff’s scan statistics identify likely spatial, temporal, and spatial-temporal clusters via likelihood hypotheses tests of whether the observed rate of cases within a geographic or longitudinal region is statistically larger than that outside the region. The conventional versions of this test are based on the assumption that all opportunities (e.g., people) inside the region have the same probability of being a case (e.g., having disease), and similarly outside the region. In reality this assumption rarely holds, for example with the probability of having cancer being a function of numerous risk factors (age, race, family history, etc). We develop and investigate the performance of a risk-adjusted scan statistic for such situations, with the likelihood function now based on a heterogeneous probability model.

A risk adjusted self-starting Bernoulli CUSUM control chart with dynamic probability control limits

Usually, in monitoring schemes the nominal value of the process parameter is assumed known. However, this assumption is violated owing to costly sampling and lack of data particularly in healthcare systems. On the other hand, applying a fixed control limit for the risk-adjusted Bernoulli chart causes to a variable in-control average run length performance for patient populations with dissimilar...

The Effect of Estimation Error on Risk-adjusted Bernoulli GEWMA Control Chart in Multistage Healthcare Processes

Background and objectives: Risk-adjusted Bernoulli control chart is one of the main tools for monitoring multistage healthcare processes to achieve higher performance and effectiveness in healthcare settings. Using parameter estimates can lead to significantly deteriorate chart performance. However, so far, the effect of estimation error on this chart in which healthcare ...

Spatial analysis of influenza incidence in EMRO using flexible scan statistics

Introduction: Influenza is an infectious and severe respiratory disease. It is one of the major problems of public health. In order to determine the spatial distribution and areas with over-expected of a disease including influenza, it can be effective in identifying environmental hazards and fair distribution of health services. In this study, the geographical distribution of the influenza and...

Optimal and Fast Detection of Spatial Clusters with Scan Statistics1 by Guenther Walther

We consider the detection of multivariate spatial clusters in the Bernoulli model with N locations, where the design distribution has weakly dependent marginals. The locations are scanned with a rectangular window with sides parallel to the axes and with varying sizes and aspect ratios. Multivariate scan statistics pose a statistical problem due to the multiple testing over many scan windows, a...

Spatial Scan Statistics on the GPGPU

Kulldorff’s spatial scan statistic and the software implementation (SaTScan) are widely used for the detection and evaluation of geographic clusters, particularly within the health care community. Unfortunately, the computational time of the scan statistic depends on a wide variety of variables, and, depending on the chosen parameter settings and operations, the computational time can be on the...
