A microwave transmission-line network guiding electromagnetic fields through a dense array of metallic objects

چکیده
We present measurements and simulations of a transmission-line network that has been designed for cloaking applications in the microwave region. Here the network is not used for cloaking but for channelling electromagnetic fields through an electrically dense array of metal objects, which alone is basically impenetrable to the impinging electromagnetic radiation. With the designed transmission-line network the waves emitted by a source placed in an air-filled waveguide are coupled into the network and guided through the array of metallic objects. Our goal is to illustrate the simple manufacturing, assembly, and the general feasibility of cloaking devices based on the transmission-line approach. Most importantly, we demonstrate both with measurements and with numerical simulations the excellent coupling of waves between the network and the surrounding medium. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. The Effect of Rotational Disorder on the Microwave Transmission of Checkerboard Metal Square Arrays
The effect of rotational disorder on the microwave transmission through thin metallic checkerboard arrays has been experimentally studied. Broad resonant features below the onset of diffraction, attributed to electromagnetic radiation coupling through the structure via the evanescent fields of bound surface waves, are found to be strongly dependent on the electrical connectivity of the surface....
متن کاملCompact Feeding Network for Array Radiations of Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons.
We propose a splitter feeding network for array radiations of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), which are guided by ultrathin corrugated metallic strips. Based on the coupled mode theory, SPP fields along a single waveguide in a certain frequency range can be readily coupled into two adjacent branch waveguides with the same propagation constants. We propose to load U-shaped particles ant...
متن کاملGuiding, focusing, and sensing on the subwavelength scale using metallic wire arrays.
We show that tapered arrays of thin metallic wires can manipulate electromagnetic fields on the subwavelength spatial scale. Two types of nanoscale imaging applications using terahertz and midinfrared waves are enabled: image magnification and radiation focusing. First, the tapered wire array acts as a multipixel TEM endoscope by capturing an electromagnetic field profile created by deeply subw...

Modern microwave and millimeter wave phased array antennas are attractive because of their ability to steer wave beams in space without physically moving the antenna element. A typical phased array antenna may have several thousand elements fed by a phase shifter for every antenna, which can steer the resulting array beam to different directions. Their low loss, low cost and lightweight phase s...
متن کاملExperimental evidence of left handed transmission through arrays of ferromagnetic microwires
Experimental evidence of left-handed transmission is demonstrated through an array of ferromagnetic microwires. We used amorphous magnetic microwires to take advantage of both electric and magnetic responses locally generating a double negative medium at microwave frequencies, where the ferromagnetic resonance effects take place. The dilution of the responses of the ferromagnetic material provi...
