چکیده

This description is mainly based on experience gained at Great Ormond Street over the past nine years-about 300 cases having been admitted. It owes much to the teaching of Denis Browne. The classification of Ladd and Gross (I934) into four types has been abandoned because it did not seem to give useful grouping of cases with similar origins, treatment or prognosis. A classification has been developed which is based on different conceptions of the embryology-which were first put forward by Sir Arthur Keith as long ago as I908-and only differs in detail from the usage of Stephens (I953) and Browne (I955). Imperforate anus is an unfortunate generic name because the great majority of cases have some opening even though it be displaced and small. Two concepts seem to explain the majority of abnormalities as clinically found. One is the idea of failure of migration so that an orifice or its remnant will remain at the site of a more primitive anus. The other is the concept of excessive fusion of the lateral genital folds ' covering ' the anus and usually leaving an opening somewhere anterior to the usual anal site. (Bill, of Seattle, has recently (1958) put forward somewhat similar suggestions.) The commoner clinical types found are:-

The present study was carried out to clinically classify and assess the different conditions associated with ano-rectal anomalies in neonatal farm animals and to determine the outcome of surgically correction and survival period. Ano-rectal Anomalies: Physiological Considerations.

We have used a classification of ano-rectal anomalies following the concepts of Keith (1908), Stephens (1953a, b), Browne (1955) and Bill and Johnson (1958), as described elsewhere (Nixon, 1961). The low anomalies in which the 'anus' or 'fistula' is below the puborectalis present few serious problems. The main groups are the covered and ectopic anus, and continence is achieved by adequately enl...

Congenital Ano-Rectal Anomalies *A paper read to the South-West Paediatric Club.

My subject is congenital ano-rectal anomalies, commonly but inaccurately called imperforate anus, but in a short paper it would be impossible to deal comprehensivel) with the subject so I propose therefore to concentrate on its clinical aspects. The material is provided by a personal series of 18 cases referred to me since 195? at Southmead Hospital, by my Paediatric colleagues Professor A. V. ...

Colostomies in Infancy and Childhood.

When considering the type and optimum time of treatment of such conditions as ano-rectal anomalies and Hirschsprung's disease in infancy, the choice usually lies between early definitive surgery, or a colostomy with postponement of the definitive surgery till the infant has reached a reasonable size. Often a decision in favour of colostomy is influenced by the widely held belief that this is a ...

Genotype-phenotype correlation in four 15q24 deleted patients identified by array-CGH.

Microdeletion 15q24 is an emerging syndrome recently described, mainly due to increased use of array-CGH. Clinical features associate mild to moderate developmental delay, typical facial characteristics (high forehead and frontal hairline, broad eyebrows, downslanting palpebral features, long philtrum), hands (particularly proximal implanted thumbs) and genital anomalies (micropenis, hypospadia...
