چکیده

The asymptotic behaviour of a closed BCMP network, with n queues and m n clients, is analyzed when n and m n become simultaneously large. Our method relies on Berry-Esseen type approximations coming in the Central Limit Theorem. We construct critical sequences m 0 n , which are necessary and suucient to distinguish between saturated and non-saturated regimes for the network. Several applications of these results are presented. It is shown that some queues can act as bottlenecks, limiting thus the global eeciency of the system.

Asymptotics and Scalings for Large Closed Product-form Networks via the Central Limit Theorem

The asymptotic behaviour of a closed BCMP network, with n queues and m n clients, is analyzed when n and m n become simultaneously large. We construct critical sequences m 0 n , which are necessary and sufficient to distinguish between saturated and non-saturated regimes for the network. Several applicati...

Central Limit Theorem in Multitype Branching Random Walk

A discrete time multitype (p-type) branching random walk on the real line R is considered. The positions of the j-type individuals in the n-th generation form a point process. The asymptotic behavior of these point processes, when the generation size tends to infinity, is studied. The central limit theorem is proved.

Dominant poles and tail asymptotics in the critical Gaussian many-sources regime

The dominant pole approximation (DPA) is a classical analytic method to obtain from a generating function asymptotic estimates for its underlying coefficients. We apply DPA to a discrete queue in a critical many-sources regime, in order to obtain tail asymptotics for the stationary queue length. As it turns out, this regime leads to a clustering of the poles of the generating function, which re...

The Local Limit Theorem: A Historical Perspective

The local limit theorem describes how the density of a sum of random variables follows the normal curve. However the local limit theorem is often seen as a curiosity of no particular importance when compared with the central limit theorem. Nevertheless the local limit theorem came first and is in fact associated with the foundation of probability theory by Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fer...

Density Estimators for Truncated Dependent Data

In some long term studies, a series of dependent and possibly truncated lifetime data may be observed. Suppose that the lifetimes have a common continuous distribution function F. A popular stochastic measure of the distance between the density function f of the lifetimes and its kernel estimate fn is the integrated square error (ISE). In this paper, we derive a central limit theorem for t...
