Glueball Masses in Quantum Chromodynamics

چکیده
We review the recent glueball mass calculations using an efficient method for solving the Schrödinger equation order by order with a scheme preserving the continuum limit. The reliability of the method is further supported by new accurate results for (1+1)-dimensional σ models and (2+1)-dimensional non-abelian models. We present first and encouraging data for the glueball masses in 3+1 dimensional QCD.

Lattice Calculation of Glueball Matrix Elements
Matrix elements of the form < 0|Tr g2GG|G > are calculated using the lattice QCD Monte Carlo method. Here, |G > is a glueball state with quantum numbers 0++, 2++, 0−+ and G is the gluon field strength operator. The matrix elements are obtained from the hybrid correlation functions of the fuzzy and plaquette operators performed on the 124 and 144 lattices at β = 5.9 and 5.96 respectively. These ...
متن کاملThe Experimental Status of Glueballs
Glueballs and other resonances with large gluonic components are predicted as bound states by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The lightest (scalar) glueball is estimated to have a mass in the range from 1 to 2 GeV/c2; a pseudoscalar and tensor glueball are expected at higher masses. Many different experiments exploiting a large variety of production mechanisms have presented results in recent yea...
متن کاملFinite Size Scaling and Low Mass Glueballs
We propose finite lattice effects as a probe of the glueball mass spectrum, and give an analysis of the recent SU(2) Monte Carlo data of Brower, Nauenberg and Schalk in terms of a gas of free glueballs. For Z 4 lattices with L = 4, 5, 6 fits are made to ~(m = 1/a~) which indicate a rather large effective number of degrees of freedom (i.e. statistical degeneracy where a spin J counts as 2J+ 1) f...
متن کاملGlueballs, Hybrids, Multiquarks. Experimental facts versus QCD inspired concepts.
Glueballs, hybrids and multiquark states are predicted as bound states in models guided by quantum chromodynamics, by QCD sum rules or QCD on a lattice. Estimates for the (scalar) glueball ground state are in the mass range from 1000 to 1800MeV, followed by a tensor and a pseudoscalar glueball at higher mass. Experiments have reported evidence for an abundance of meson resonances with 0−+, 0 an...
متن کاملTrigluon Glueball and its Implication for a Recent BES Observation
We calculate the mass of the 0 triple-valence-gluon resonance, the trigluon glueball, by virtue of the QCD sum rules. Result shows that the mass of the trigluon glueball lies in between 1.9 and 2.7 GeV within the scope of theoretical uncertainties. Moreover, it is likely that the BES new measurement of the pp̄ enhancement near threshold in the J/ψ decays exhibits the existence of this trigluon s...
