DST and DCT-based Depth of Interaction (DOI) Determining Techniques for LSO and LuYAP Scintillation Detectors in PET

چکیده
The absorption of radiation in multicrystal PET detectors results in different decay-time pulses. The differences between these pulse decay time constants are used to discriminate between different scintillator materials. In this paper, pulse shape discrimination (PSD) techniques based on the discrete sine transform (DST) and discrete cosine transform (DCT) are proposed. These transformations are used to extract frequencydomain features for discrimination. Comparison of the proposed PSD techniques was performed on digitized pulses from the LSO/LuYAP phoswich detector. The comparison between different DSTand DCT-types turned out that DST-type 3 gives the best PSD efficiency of 98.79%, while DCT-type 2 gives 98.12%. A new method for obtaining depth of interaction (DOI) information in PET detectors is presented in this study, based on sharing and redirection of scintillation light among multiple detectors, together with attenuation of light over the length of the crystals. The aim is to obtain continuous DOI encoding with single side readout, and at the same time without the need for one-to-one coupling bet...

متن کاملA depth-of-interaction PET detector using a stair-shaped reflector arrangement and a single-ended scintillation light readout.
Positron emission tomography (PET) detectors with the ability to encode depth-of-interaction (DOI) information allow us to simultaneously improve the spatial resolution and sensitivity of PET scanners. In this study, we propose a DOI PET detector based on a stair-pattern reflector arrangement inserted between pixelated crystals and a single-ended scintillation light readout. The main advantage ...
