Quantum Antiferromagnets in Two Dimensions
نویسنده
چکیده
I review recent work, performed in collaboration primarily with N. Read and Jinwu Ye, on the properties of quantum antiferromagnets in two dimensions. The emphasis is on the properties of the antiferromagnet in states which do not have any long-range magnetic order. The universal spin dynamics in the quantum critical region of number of frustrated and random antiferromagnets is studied; implications for neutron scattering experiments in the lightlydoped cuprates are noted. The nature of the quantum-disordered phase of non-random frustrated antiferromagnets is examined in some detail: the states found have (i) collinear spin correlations, spin-Peierls or valence-bond-solid order, and confined spinons, order and confined spinons or (ii) coplanar spin correlations, no spin-Peierls order and deconfined bosonic spinons.

Universal magnetic properties of frustrated quantum antiferromagnets in two dimensions.
We present a theory of frustrated, two-dimensional, quantum antiferromagnets in the vicinity of a quantum transition from a non-collinear, magneticallyordered ground state to a quantum-disordered phase. Using a sigma-model for bosonic, spin-1/2, spinon fields, we obtain universal scaling forms for a variety of observables. Our results are compared with numerical data on the spin-1/2 triangular ...

I review work done in collaboration with N. Read on the nature of the non-Néel phase of quantum antiferromagnets on bipartite lattices in one and two dimensions. I examine in detail the global phase diagram of a class of nearest-neighbor SU(N) antiferromagnets all of which have a two-sublattice Néel state as their classical ground state. The nonNéel or resonating valence bond state is shown to ...
متن کاملGlobal Phase Diagrams of Frustrated Quantum Antiferromagnets in Two Dimensions: Doubled Chern-Simons Theory
We present a general approach to understanding the quantum phases and phase transitions of quantum antiferromagnets in two spatial dimensions. We begin with the simplest spin liquid state, the Z2 spin liquid, whose elementary excitations are spinons and visons, carrying Z2 electric and magnetic charges respectively. Their dynamics are expressed in terms of a doubled U(1) Chern Simons theory, wh...
متن کاملTheory of Raman scattering in one-dimensional quantum spin-1/2 antiferromagnets.
We study theoretically the Raman-scattering spectra in the one-dimensional (1D) quantum spin-1/2 antiferromagnets. The analysis reveals that their low-energy dynamics is exquisitely sensitive to various perturbations to the Heisenberg chain with nearest-neighbor exchange interactions, such as magnetic anisotropy, longer-range exchange interactions, and bond dimerization. These weak interactions...
متن کاملSpinons and triplons in spatially anisotropic frustrated antiferromagnets
The search for elementary excitations with fractional quantum numbers is a central challenge in modern condensed-matter physics. It has long been speculated that two-dimensional frustratedmagnets might support quantum disordered states with neutral spin-1/2 excitations known as spinons. Despite decades of search, however, no clear experimental examples have been found. We explore the possibilit...
