چکیده
SN The incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are lower in Asia than in the West. However, time trend studies from Asia (Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong) have shown that the incidence of IBD has increased over the past 2 decades. Differences have also been observed in the incidence of IBD across different geographic regions within Asia. In Asia, ulcerative colitis (UC) is more common than Crohn’s disease (CD), much as it was in the West in the mid–20th century. However, preliminary evidence suggests that over time CD may overtake UC in Asia. The ratio of UC to CD appears to be declining over time in some countries in Asia.

Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) including most important forms; Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC); are chronic diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract with unclear etiology and pathology. The role of gut microbiota has recently been considered as major a factor, since altered microbiome or "dysbiosis" is a key player in the protracted course of inflammation in IBD. Howeve...
متن کاملPathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Recent Advances in Biologic Therapies
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic intestinal inflammatory disorder with an unknown etiology. IBD is composed of two different disease entities: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). IBD has been thought to be idiopathic but has two main attributable causes that include genetic and environmental factors. The gastrointestinal tract in which this disease occurs is central t...

The chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are recognized as important causes of gastrointestinal disease in children and adults. Insight into IBD is advancing rapidly owing to a plethora of investigations into intestinal inflammation in animal models, advances in the interrogation of diseases inherited as complex genetic traits, and the development o...
متن کاملRecent Advances: The Imbalance of Cytokines in the Pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Cytokines play an important role in the immunopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, where they drive and regulate multiple aspects of intestinal inflammation. The imbalance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines that occurs in IBD results in disease progression and tissue damage and limits the resolution of inflammat...

متن کاملRecent advances in pathobiology and histopathological diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease
In order to make a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's disease (CD) which belongs to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), it is important to evaluate pathologic material in conjunction with clinical, laboratory and endoscopic findings. There are several exceptions to the classical principles of IBD that may lead to diagnostic confusion. UC and CD have a variety of characteristic but al...
