Convergence of Linear Barycentric Rational Interpolation for Analytic Functions

چکیده
Polynomial interpolation to analytic functions can be very accurate, depending on the distribution of the interpolation nodes. However, in equispaced nodes and the like, besides being badly conditioned, these interpolants fail to converge even in exact arithmetic in some cases. Linear barycentric rational interpolation with the weights presented by Floater and Hormann can be viewed as blended polynomial interpolation and often yields better approximation in such cases. This has been proven for differentiable functions and indicated in several experiments for analytic functions. So far, these rational interpolants have been used mainly with a constant parameter usually denoted by d, the degree of the blended polynomials, which leads to small condition numbers but to merely algebraic convergence. With the help of logarithmic potential theory we derive asymptotic convergence results for analytic functions when this parameter varies with the number of nodes. Moreover, we present suggestions for how to choose d in order to observe fast and stable convergence, even in equispaced nodes where stable geometric convergence is provably impossible. We demonstrate our results with several numerical examples. Math Subject Classification: 65D05, 65E05, 41A20

Efficient High-order Rational Integration and Deferred Correction with Equispaced Data
Stable high-order linear interpolation schemes are well suited for the accurate approximation of antiderivatives and the construction of efficient quadrature rules. In this paper we utilize for this purpose the family of linear barycentric rational interpolants by Floater and Hormann, which are particularly useful for interpolation with equispaced nodes. We analyze the convergence of integrals ...
متن کاملThe Linear Barycentric Rational Quadrature Method for Volterra
We introduce two direct quadrature methods based on linear rational interpolation for solving general Volterra integral equations of the second kind. The first, deduced by a direct application of linear barycentric rational quadrature given in former work, is shown to converge at the same rate as the rational quadrature rule but is costly on long integration intervals. The second, based on a co...

متن کاملExponential convergence of a linear rational interpolant between transformed Chebyshev points
In 1988 the second author presented experimentally well-conditioned linear rational functions for global interpolation. We give here arrays of nodes for which one of these interpolants converges exponentially for analytic functions Introduction Let f be a complex function defined on an interval I of the real axis and let x0, x1, . . . , xn be n + 1 distinct points of I, which we do not assume e...
متن کاملBarycentric rational interpolation at quasi-equidistant nodes
A collection of recent papers reveals that linear barycentric rational interpolation with the weights suggested by Floater and Hormann is a good choice for approximating smooth functions, especially when the interpolation nodes are equidistant. In the latter setting, the Lebesgue constant of this rational interpolation process is known to grow only logarithmically with the number of nodes. But ...
