چکیده

We propose a method for accurately localizing ground vehicles with the aid of satellite imagery. Our approach takes a ground image as input, and outputs the location from which it was taken on a georeferenced satellite image. We perform visual localization by estimating the co-occurrence probabilities between the ground and satellite images based on a ground-satellite feature dictionary. The method is able to estimate likelihoods over arbitrary locations without the need for a dense ground image database. We present a rankingloss based algorithm that learns location-discriminative feature projection matrices that result in further improvements in accuracy. We evaluate our method on the Malaga and KITTI public datasets and demonstrate significant improvements over a baseline that performs exhaustive search.

Vision-Based Vehicle Localization Using a Visual Street Map with Embedded SURF Scale

Accurate vehicle positioning is important not only for in-car navigation systems but is also a requirement for emerging autonomous driving methods. Consumer level GPS are inaccurate in a number of driving environments such as in tunnels or areas where tall buildings cause satellite shadowing. Current vision-based methods typically rely on the integration of multiple sensors or fundamental matri...

Vehicle Detection and Orientation Estimation Using the Radon Transform

Determining the location and orientation of vehicles in satellite and airborne imagery is a challenging task given the density of cars and other vehicles as well as the complexity of the environment in urban regions around the world. We describe an accurate and flexible method for detecting vehicles using a template-based directional chamfer matching approach, and vehicle orientation estimation...

Comparing the Capability of Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery in Land Use and Land Cover Mapping Using Pixel-based and Object-based Classification Methods

Introduction: Having accurate and up-to-date information on the status of land use and land cover change is a key point to protecting natural resources, sustainable agriculture management and urban development. Preparing the land cover and land use maps with traditional methods is usually time and cost consuming. Nowadays satellite imagery provides the possibility to prepare these maps in less ...

A Visual Navigation System for Uas Based on Geo-referenced Imagery

This article presents an approach to the terrain-aided navigation problem suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles flying at low altitude. The problem of estimating the state parameters of a flying vehicle is addressed in the particular situation where the GPS information is unavailable or unreliable due to jamming situations for instance. The proposed state estimation approach fuses information f...
