چکیده
The acyclic directed Steiner tree problem (ADSP) requires a minimal outward tree within an acyclic digraph with edge costs G = (V; E; d) which connects a root r with a distinguished subset S V , #S = k. The best possible performance guarantee of any polynomial approximation algorithm for ADSP cannot be less than 1 4 log k unless ~ P NP. The presented series of heuristics A n has a performance guarantee k 1 n (1 + ln k) n?1. This implies that that fA n g is a polynomial exp p 4 ln k ln(ln k + 1)?ln(ln k +1)]-approximation scheme for ADSP. Research partially supprted by the Volkswagen{Stiftung.

A method to obtain the best uniform polynomial approximation for the family of rational function
In this article, by using Chebyshev’s polynomials and Chebyshev’s expansion, we obtain the best uniform polynomial approximation out of P2n to a class of rational functions of the form (ax2+c)-1 on any non symmetric interval [d,e]. Using the obtained approximation, we provide the best uniform polynomial approximation to a class of rational functions of the form (ax2+bx+c)-1 for both cases b2-4a...
متن کاملSolving a Permutation Problem by a Fully Polynomial-time Approximation Scheme
For a problem of optimal discrete control with a discrete control set composed of vertices of an n-dimensional permutohedron, a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme is proposed.
متن کاملA Polynomial Time Approximation Scheme for Feasibility Analysis in Static Priority Systems
Current feasibility tests for the static priority scheduling of periodic task systems run in pseudo-polynomial time. We present an approximation scheme for feasibility in static priority systems that runs in polynomial time. This test is an approximation with respect to the amount of processor’s capacity that must be “sacrificed” for the test to become exact. We show that an arbitrary level of ...
متن کاملFully Polynomial Time Approximation Schemes
Recall that the approximation ratio for an approximation algorithm is a measure to evaluate the approximation performance of the algorithm. The closer the ratio to 1 the better the approximation performance of the algorithm. It is notable that there is a class of NP-hard optimization problems, most originating from scheduling problems, for which there are polynomial time approximation algorithm...

We investigate the approximability of no-wait permutation flow shop scheduling problem under the makespan criterion. We present a polynomial time approximation scheme (PTAS) for problem on any fixed number of machines.
