Quality of service for voice over IP in networks with congestion avoidance

چکیده
This paper assesses the impact of active queue management schemes on the quality of service of voice over Internet protocol applications. A new analytical method based on a fixed point approach to estimate the end-user satisfaction is proposed. The results obtained were validated using discrete event simulation techniques. In all the studied cases, it was observed a great deal of agreement between the analytical results and the results obtained through simulation. The theoretical predictions, as well as the presented empirical evidences confirm, as demonstrated in previous works, that the use of active queue management offers better quality of service than the traditional queue control mechanisms used in Internet. From these results, we V. A. Reguera · F. A. Paliza Telecommunications Department, Central University of Las Villas, Santa Clara, Cuba V. A. Reguera e-mail: [email protected] F. A. An Experimental Evaluation of Voice-over-IP Quality over the Datagram Congestion Control Protocol
The presence of voice-over-IP traffic in the Internet is constantly increasing, as it offers improved connectivity and quality-of-service comparable to classical telephony at costs that the rival circuit-switched telephony systems cannot match. This paper evaluates the audio quality of voice-overIP calls that use the Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP), a congestion-controlled alternati...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Measurement-Based Call Admission Control on Voice Gateways
Abstract Quality of Service (QoS) is critical for the success of real time applications over IP, such as Voice over IP (VoIP). On voice gateways, Call Admission Control (CAC) plays an important role for guaranteed QoS, for it makes decisions on whether and how to deliver the traffic based on different kinds of resources. In our study, we propose the measurement-based CAC model based on the vari...
متن کاملA Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks
Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of Mobile QoS Testbed “MOBIQ” for Multimedia Delivery Services
In this paper, we introduce our mobile QoS testbed “MOBIQ”, which is designed for mobile multimedia services including VoIP (Voice over IP) and audio/video streaming. The key components on this are 1) multiple-reference compression of RTP/UDP/IP headers for efficient media packet delivery on radio links, 2) layer2 combined queueing, which integrates wireless layer2 functionality into an IP-laye...
متن کاملTFRC-Based Selective Retransmission for Multimedia Applications
Multimedia applications are becoming increasingly popular in IP networks, while in mobile networks the limited bandwidth and the higher error rate arise in spite of its popularity. These are restraining factors for mobile clients using multimedia applications such as voice over IP (VoIP) or video streaming. In some conditions the retransmission of lost and corrupted packets should increase the ...
