Of the Hennessy-Milner Property and other Demons

چکیده
We relate three different, but equivalent, ways to characterise behavioural equivalence for set coalgebras. These are: using final coalgebras, using coalgebraic languages that have the HennessyMilner property and using coalgebraic languages that have “logical congruences”. On the technical side the main result of our paper is a straightforward construction of the final T -coalgebra of a set functor using a given logical language that has the Hennessy-Milner property with respect to the class of T coalgebras.

A Hennessy-Milner Property for Many-Valued Modal Logics
A Hennessy-Milner property, relating modal equivalence and bisimulations, is defined for many-valued modal logics that combine a local semantics based on a complete MTL-chain (a linearly ordered commutative integral residuated lattice) with crisp Kripke frames. A necessary and sufficient algebraic condition is then provided for the class of image-finite models of these logics to admit the Henne...
متن کاملFinal coalgebras and the Hennessy-Milner property
The existence of a final coalgebra is equivalent to the existence of a formal logic with a set (small class) of formulas that has the Hennessy-Milner property of distinguishing coalgebraic states up to bisimilarity. This applies to coalgebras of any functor on the category of sets for which the bisimilarity relation is transitive. There are cases of functors that do have logics with the Henness...
متن کاملA Finite Model Construction for Coalgebraic Modal Logic
In recent years, a tight connection has emerged between modal logic on the one hand and coalgebras, understood as generic transition systems, on the other hand. Here, we prove that (finitary) coalgebraic modal logic has the finite model property. This fact not only reproves known completeness results for coalgebraic modal logic, which we push further by establishing that every coalgebraic modal...
متن کاملCompositionality via Cut-Elimination: Hennessy-Milner Logic for an Arbitrary GSOS
We present a sequent calculus for proving that processes in a process algebra satisfy assertions in Hennessy-Milner logic. The main novelty lies in the use of the operational semantics to derive introduction rules (on the left and right of sequents) for the diierent operators of the process calculus. This gives a generic proof system applicable to any process algebra with an operational semanti...
متن کاملProcess Behaviour: Formulae vs. Tests (Extended Abstract)
Process behaviour is often defined either in terms of the tests they satisfy, or in terms of the logical properties they enjoy. Here we compare these two approaches, using extensional testing in the style of DeNicola, Hennessy, and a recursive version of the property logic HML. We first characterise subsets of this property logic which can be captured by tests. Then we show that those subsets o...
