Simulated Annealing with Extended Neighbourhood 1
نویسنده
چکیده
Simulated Annealing (SA) is a powerful stochastic search method applicable to a wide range of problems for which little prior knowledge is available. It can produce very high quality solutions for hard combinatorial optimization problems. However, the computation time required by SA is very large. Various methods have been proposed to reduce the computation time, but they mainly deal with the careful tuning of SA's control parameters. This paper rst analyzes the impact of SA's neighbourhood on SA's performance and shows that SA with a larger neighbourhood is better than SA with a smaller one. The paper also gives a general model of SA, which has both dynamic generation probability and acceptance probability, and proves its convergence. All variants of SA can be uni ed under such a generalization. Finally, a method of extending SA's neighbourhood is proposed, which uses a discrete approximation to some continuous probability function as the generation function in SA, and several important corollaries of the general model are given.

A Simulated Annealing Algorithm within the Variable Neighbourhood Search Framework to Solve the Capacitated Facility Location-Allocation Problem
In this study, we discuss the capacitated facility location-allocation problem with uncertain parameters in which the uncertainty is characterized by given finite numbers of scenarios. In this model, the objective function minimizes the total expected costs of transportation and opening facilities subject to the robustness constraint. To tackle the problem efficiently and effectively, an effici...
متن کاملComparison of Di erent Neighbourhood Sizes in Simulated Annealing
Neighbourhood structure and size are important parameters in local search algorithms. This is also true for generalised local search algorithms like simulated annealing. It has been shown that the performance of simulated annealing can be improved by adopting a suitable neighbourhood size. However, previous studies usually assumed that the neighbourhood size was xed during search. This paper pr...
متن کاملDynamic Neighbourhood Size in Simulated Annealing
Simulated annealing has been shown to be a powerful stochastic method of tackling hard combinatorial optimisation problems, but it demands a vast amount of computation time to arrive at a good approximate solution. A lot of research has been done on the cooling schedule of simulated annealing to speed up its convergence, but only limited attention has been paid to the impact of the neighbourhoo...
متن کاملComparison of Simulated Annealing and Electromagnetic Algorithms for Solution of Extended Portfolio Model
This paper presents two meta-heuristic algorithms to solve an extended portfolio selection model. The extended model is based on the Markowitz's Model, aiming to minimize investment risk in a specified level of return. In order to get the Markowitz model close to the real conditions, different constraints were embedded on the model which resulted in a discrete and non-convex solution space. ...
متن کاملA Comparison of One- and Two- Compartment Neighbourhoods in Heuristic Search with Spatial Forest Management Goals
This study presents a comparison of the performance of four heuristic techniques with oneand two-compartment neighbourhoods in harvest scheduling problems including a spatial objective variable. The tested heuristics were random ascent, Hero, simulated annealing and tabu search. All methods seek better solutions by inspecting the neighbourhood solutions, which are combinations that can be obtai...
