Variation of SEP event occurrence with heliospheric magnetic field

چکیده
Recent work based on nitrate abundances in polar ice cores has shown that large fluence solar energetic (E > 30 MeV) particle (LSEP) events during the spacecraft era of observations (1960-present) are diminished in comparison with those of some preceding eras detected in the ice cores dating back to 1561. McCracken et al. [McCracken, K.G.. Dreschhoff, G.A.M., Smart, D.F., Shea. متن کاملSolar cycle 24: Implications for energetic particles and long‐term space climate change
[1] The recent solar minimumwas the longest and deepest of the space age, with the lowest average sunspot numbers for nearly a century. The Sun appears to be exiting a grand solar maximum (GSM) of activity which has persisted throughout the space age, and is headed into a significantly quieter period. Indeed, initial observations of solar cycle 24 (SC24) continue to show a relatively low helios...
متن کاملCoronal mass ejections and magnetic flux buildup in the heliosphere
[1] To test for magnetic flux buildup in the heliosphere from coronal mass ejections (CMEs), we simulate heliospheric flux as a constant background open flux with a time-varying interplanetary CME (ICME) contribution. As flux carried by ejecta can only contribute to the heliospheric flux budget while it remains closed, the ICME flux opening rate is an important factor. Two separate forms for th...
متن کاملMulti - spacecraft Study of the 8 November 2000 SEP Event : Electron Injection Histories 100 ° Apart
We present the analysis of a large solar near-relativistic electron event observed by the Ulysses and the ACE spacecraft on 8 November 2000, when Ulysses was located at a heliocentric distance of 2.4 AU and at a heliographic latitude of ∼80° S. We use a particle propagation model to infer the local interplanetary transport conditions and the injection histories of the near-relativistic electron...
متن کاملInterchange Reconnection: Remote Sensing of Solar Signature and Role in Heliospheric Magnetic Flux Budget
Interchange reconnection at the Sun, that is, reconnection between a doublyconnected field loop and singly-connected or open field line that extends to infinity, has important implications for the heliospheric magnetic flux budget. Recent work on the topic is reviewed, with emphasis on two aspects. The first is a possible heliospheric signature of interchange reconnection at the coronal hole bo...
