Numerical model of stratified flow – case study of the Neretva riverbed salination ( 2004 )
نویسندگان
چکیده
Two natural directions of saline sea water intrusion have been registered in the lower reaches of the Neretva River: the first direction of intrusion is through the Neretva riverbed, and the second one through deeper underground layers. The numerical model of stratified flow is described, and its application in the analysis of the Neretva River salination via the first direction of intrusion is presented. The model is calibrated based on measurements conducted in 2004. It was established that saline water appears in Metković at fresh water flow rates of less than 180 m3/s, while saline water is fully blocked out from the riverbed when water flow exceeds 500 m3/s.

Paleo-coastline of the Central Eastern Adriatic Sea, and Paleo-Channels of the Cetina and Neretva rivers during the last glacial maximum
The paper documents the use of a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) method to reconstruct paleochannels and the paleo-coastline during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) in the Central Eastern Adriatic area. We focused on the paleo-coastline and paleo-channels of the Neretva and the Cetina rivers, which were estimated from the 15’’ bathymetry available for the Adriatic Sea. While being aware of the limi...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Saline Gravity Currents Using EARSM and Buoyant k- Turbulence Closures
Gravity currents are very common in nature and may appear in rivers, lakes, oceans, and the atmosphere. They are produced by the buoyant forces interacting between fluids of different densities and may introduce sediments and pollutants into water bodies. In this study, the hydrodynamics and propagation of gravity currents are investigated using WISE (Width Integrated Stratified Environments), ...
متن کاملInfluence of intake’s angel and location on sediment rate in bend of river using CCHE2D software
Investigating the features and flow behavior and related component is one of the complex phenomena that make using of software inevitable. The rivers carry sediment content along with water which is created by erosion of riverbed sediment and erosion caused by rainfall or surface runoff flowing over the catchment area. If the action of river dewatering occurs, the entry of sediment into the int...

Due to groundwater overextraction, during the recent years, Malekan plain aquifer has been faced to a risk of increasing salination. The groundwater flow model of the plain was designed, invesitagion of groundwater flow regime and precise hydraulic parameters estimation, utilizing the various method such as geological surveys, tomography methods, hydrochemical analysis and simulation of aquife...
متن کاملSimulation of water surface profile in vertically stratified rockfill dams
Detention rockfill dams are accounted as economically efficient structures for flood control, river bed and banks protection, flow diversion, etc. As the hydraulic behavior of these structures, when are used for flood control, is affected by the depth of water in their porous media, there is interests to predict water surface profile through the body of these structures. In this research, we de...
