Projection-Based Denoising Method for Photon-Counting Energy-Resolving Detectors

چکیده
In this paper, we present a novel projection-based novel noise reduction method for photon counting energy resolving detectors in Spectral Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. In order to denoise the projection data, a guidance image from all energy channels is computed, which employs a variant of the joint bilateral filter to denoise each energy bin individually. The method is evaluated by a simulation study of cone beam CT data. We achieve a reduction of noise in individual channels by 80% while at the same time preserving edges and structures well in the results, which indicate that the methods are applicable to clinical practice.

Material Decomposition for Energy Resolving Detectors using Weighted Levenberg-Marquardt Optimization
Introduction: Energy resolving X-ray photon counting detectors are able to assign each detected photon to energy bins [1] (Figure 1). This allows the decomposition of an X-ray image into the materials of the acquired object [1, 2], which has potential benefits in angiography. Contrast agent can be extracted without acquiring a mask image, possibly saving dose and avoiding problems with patient ...
متن کاملOptimal "image-based" weighting for energy-resolved CT.
This paper investigates a method of reconstructing images from energy-resolved CT data with negligible beam-hardening artifacts and improved contrast-to-nosie ratio (CNR) compared to conventional energy-weighting methods. Conceptually, the investigated method first reconstructs separate images from each energy bin. The final image is a linear combination of the energy-bin images, with the weigh...
متن کاملEnergy calibration of energy-resolved photon-counting pixel detectors using laboratory polychromatic x-ray beams
Recently, photon-counting detectors capable of resolving incident x-ray photon energies have been considered for use in spectral x-ray imaging applications. For reliable use of energy-resolved photon-counting detectors (ERPCDs), energy calibration is an essential procedure prior to their use because variations in responses from each pixel of the ERPCD for incident photons, even at the same ener...
متن کاملPhoton-number-resolving megapixel image sensor at room temperature without avalanche gain
In several emerging fields of study such as encryption in optical communications, determination of the number of photons in an optical pulse is of great importance. Typically, such photon-number-resolving sensors require operation at very low temperature (e.g., 4 K for superconducting-based detectors) and are limited to low pixel count (e.g., hundreds). In this paper, a CMOS-based photon-counti...
متن کاملA superconducting focal plane array for ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared astrophysics.
Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors, or MKIDs, have proven to be a powerful cryogenic detector technology due to their sensitivity and the ease with which they can be multiplexed into large arrays. A MKID is an energy sensor based on a photon-variable superconducting inductance in a lithographed microresonator, and is capable of functioning as a photon detector across the electromagnetic spe...
