چکیده

AbstTactThe ATM Forum is currently discussing the need for a new best-effort service called UBR+, which ie, an enhancement to the existing UBR service, to supporit data traffic. The objective of the UBR+ service is to provide each user with a minimum service rate guarantee and a fair access to any excess available bandwidth. In this paper, we present a new efficient scheme for supporting this service. The key advantage of our scheme is that it employs only FIFO queueing (instead of per-VC queueing) and admits simple implementation in ATM switches. Our ideas involve a simple scheduling mechanism that is based on per-VC queueing and incorporate the virtual queueing technique [lo], [ll] that can efficiently emulate per-VC queuing on a shared FIFO queue. Simulation results are presented to show that our schemtas can deliver almost ideal performance for supporting the new service requirements of UBR+.

An Efficient FIFO-based Buffer Management Strategy for TCP over GFR

The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR)service is positioned as an intermediate alternative between Available Bit Rate(ABR)service, which uses a closed-loop feedback control framework, and Unspecified Bit Rate(UBR) service, which provides no assurance whatsoever. The GFR service is expected to be useful for TCP/IP based applications. The aim of the GFR service is to provide each ATM VC with a minimum se...

TCP / IP over ATM - GFR *

Today ATM technology is facing challenges from Integrated Service IP, IP switching, Gigabit IP router and Gigabit Ethernet. Although ATM is approved by ITUT as the standard technology in B-ISDN, its survivability is still in question. Since ATM-UBR (Unspecified Bit Rate) provides no service guarantee and ATM-ABR (Available Bit Rate) is still unattainable for most users, many existing users have...

Bandwidth Scheduling for Wide - Area ATMNetworks Using Virtual

| This paper is concerned with the design of a class of bandwidth scheduling policies that are suitable for public, wide-area ATM networks. We specify design goals for such strategies including ease of implementation and the ability to guarantee minimum bandwidths to individual buuers. Packetized generalized processor sharing is brieey discussed and a minimum-bandwidth result for self-clocked f...

In uence of the ATM Service Category on TCP Performance in Large Networks

Future high-speed networks will be very complex and use many sophisticated tra c control mechanisms. This paper investigates the performance of interactive TCP services over large scale ATM networks with many TCP connections by means of simulation. A simulation environment has been developed, which allows the automatic creation of large simulation scenarios on the basis of a tabular description...
