Second-Order Methods for Distributed Approximate Single- and Multicommodity Flow

چکیده
We study local-control algorithms for maximum flow and multicommodity flow problems in distributed networks. We propose a second-order method for accelerating the convergence of the “first-order” distributed algorithms recently proposed by Awerbuch and Leighton. Our experimental study shows that second-order methods are significantly faster than the first-order methods for approximate singleand multicommodity flow problems. Furthermore, our experimental study gives valuable insights into the diffusive processes that underly these local-control algorithms; this leads us to identify many open technical problems for theoretical study.

Analytic Solution for Hypersonic Flow Past a Slender Elliptic Cone Using Second-Order Perturbation Approximations
An approximate analytical solution is obtained for hypersonic flow past a slender elliptic cone using second-order perturbation techniques in spherical coordinate systems. The analysis is based on perturbations of hypersonic flow past a circular cone aligned with the free stream, the perturbations stemming from the small cross-section eccentricity. By means of hypersonic approximations for the ...

The maximum multicommodity flow problem is a natural generalization of the maximum flow problem to route multiple distinct flows. Obtaining a 1 − ǫ approximation to the multicommodity flow problem on graphs is a well-studied problem. In this paper we present an adaptation of recent advances in single-commodity flow algorithms to this problem. As the underlying linear systems in the electrical p...

متن کاملApproximate Viscous Shock-Layer Analysis of Axisymmetric Bodies in Perfect Gas Hypersonic Flow
In this paper, an approximate axisymmetric method is developed which can reliably calculate fully viscous hypersonic flow over blunt-nosed bodies. In this method, a Maslen’s second-order pressure expression is used instead of the normal momentum equation. The combination of Maslen’s second-order pressure expression and viscous shock layer equations is developed to accurately and efficiently com...
متن کاملApproximate duality of multicommodity multiroute flows and cuts: single source case
Given an integer h, a graph G = (V,E) with arbitrary positive edge capacities and k pairs of vertices (s1, t1), (s2, t2), . . . , (sk, tk), called terminals, an h-route cut is a set F ⊆ E of edges such that after the removal of the edges in F no pair si−ti is connected by h edge-disjoint paths (i.e., the connectivity of every si− ti pair is at most h− 1 in (V,E\F )). The h-route cut is a natura...
