چکیده

SUMMARY Some metabolic properties of a new, spontaneous, trans plantable adenocarcinoma originating from a C3H mouse sub maxillary gland have been analytically compared to the normal gland. The major findings may be summarized as follows: (a) The oxygen consumption of tumor cells is 38% higher than that of the normal gland. (b) In anaerobic conditions the nor mal submaxifiary gland shows a higher degree of glycolysis, while in the presence of air it is unable to glycolyze. (c) The presence of pyruvate and fumarate greatly increases the oxy gen consumption of tumor homogenate, while for the normal gland homogenate their utilization is very low. The diphospho pyridine nucleotide requirement for oxidation of pyruvate and fumarate is practically similar for the tumor and the normal gland. The data obtained are evaluated in terms of their compara tive significance and a tentative interpretation of the findings is suggested.

The Effect of Testicle Extract on the Growth of Transplantable Mouse Tumors

Grafts of a transplantable mouse sarcoma designated as No. 180, and those of an attenuated strain of a more malignant Sarcoma S/37, treated with testicle extract, either fail to grow on inoculation or result in tumors of a lower growth rate than the controls. Autografts of spontaneous mouse tumors so treated show little if any effect, while the Bashford adenocarcinoma and the unattenuated S/37 ...

Fatty acid synthetase from a mouse mammary adenocarcinoma.

Fatty acid synthetase was isolated from transplantable mammary adenocarcinomas carried by C3H mice. Comparison of physicochemical and immunological properties of this enzyme with those of the fatty acid synthetase isolated from normal glands of lactating C3H mice indicates that the enzymes are similar in all respects. The products of the purified fatty acid synthetase from normal and neoplastic...

Effect of size and/or rate of growth of a transplantable mouse adenocarcinoma on lung; metastasis production.

MATERIALS AND METHODS Young female mice of the ZBC stock were used as recipient hosts. Mice of this strain are able to grow tumors from the Z (CSH) strain. The tumor used was a transplantable adenocarcinoma of the mammary gland which arose spontaneously in a z (CSH) breeding femaleandhasbeenmaintained in this laboratory for 5@successive passages into ZBC mice. Two types of experiments were perf...

Expression of endogenous murine leukemia virus in transplantable tumor cells and DNA methylation of the viral sequences.

A cell line derived from early passage of a transplantable tumor in athymic mice that initially had been injected with human breast adenocarcinoma cells produced a substantial amount of RNA sequences related to the Kirsten murine leukemia virus. The cell line derived from later passage of transplantation of these tumors diminished viral RNA production. Expression of the viral RNA sequences in t...

Effect of hydroxyurea on growth of a transplantable mouse mammary adenocarcinoma.

Growth of mammary adenocarcinoma H2712 is inhibited by hydroxyurea. This compound was effective by daily, intermit tent, or single s.c. injection. It was also effective when adminis tered directly into the tumor. Hydroxyurea is most efficacious when administered prior to the onset of rapid growth. Simultaneous administration of hormones with antitumor activity in this system did not augment the...
