چکیده

The numerical approach to solving geometric constraint problems is indispensable for building a practical CAD system. The most commonly-used numerical method is the Newton–Raphson method. It is fast, but has the instability problem: the method requires good initial values. To overcome this problem, recently the homotopy method has been proposed and experimented with. According to the report, the homotopy method generally works much better in terms of stability. In this paper we use the numerical optimization method to deal with the geometric constraint solving problem. The experimental results based on our implementation of the method show that this method is also much less sensitive to the initial value. Further, a distinctive advantage of the method is that underand over-constrained problems can be handled naturally and efficiently. We also give many instructive examples to illustrate the above advantages. q Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.

We are dealing with the problem of space layout planning here. We present an architectural conceptual CAD approach. Starting with design specifications in terms of constraints over spaces, a specific enumeration heuristics leads to a complete set of consistent conceptual design solutions named topological solutions. These topological solutions which do not presume any precise definitive dimensi...

Meshfree simulation of deforming domains

Spatial discretization of the domain and/or boundary conditions prevents application of many numerical techniques to physical problems with time-varying geometry and boundary conditions. By contrast, the R-functions method (RFM) for solving boundary and initial value problems discretizes not the domain but the underlying functional space, while the prescribed boundary conditions are satisfied e...

Presented in the paper is an efficient pair-wise offset algorithm for closed 2D point-sequence curves (PS-curve). A key feature of the proposed algorithm is that all local invalid loops are removed from the input PS-curve before constructing a raw offset-curve, by invoking a pair-wise interference-detection (PWID) test. In the PWID test, each pair of elementary offset segments is tested for int...

This article presents methods for modeling knowledge base and database for intelligent concurrent design, including mathematical formulation and system development. Four issues are addressed in this research: (1) modeling product life-cycle aspects using aspect primitives called features, (2) generating product life-cycle aspects using a knowledge-based system, (3) maintaining consistency of pr...
