چکیده

Group communication provides communication primitives with various semantics and their use greatly simplifies the development of highly available services. However, despite tremendous advances in research and numerous prototypes, group communication stays confined to small niches and academic prototypes. In contrast, message-oriented middleware such as the Java Messaging Service (JMS) is widely used, and has become a defacto standard. We believe that the lack of standard interfaces is the reason that hinders the deployment of group communication systems. Since JMS is well-established, an interesting solution is to map group communication primitives onto the JMS API. This requires to adapt the traditional specifications of group communication in order to take into account the features of JMS. The resulting group communication API, together with corresponding specifications, defines group communication primitives compatible with the JMS syntax and semantics.

JMS Compliance in the Narada Event Brokering System

Narada is a distributed event brokering system based on the publish/subscribe paradigm and is designed to run on a very large network of broker nodes. This paper describes the process of achieving Java Message Service (JMS) compliance in the Narada system. The paper also describes our strategy for bringing Narada’s benefits – scaling, availability, routing efficiencies and failure resiliency – ...

Application of the Java Message Service in mobile monitoring environments

Distributed systems and in particular sensor networks are in need of efficient asynchronous communication, message security and integrity, and scalability. These points are especially important in mobile environments where mobile remote sensors are connected to a control center only via intermittent communication, e.g. via satellite link. We present an approach that is able to deal with the iss...

Solace JMS Broker Delivers Highest Throughput for Persistent and Non-Persistent Delivery

Java Message Service (JMS) is a standardized messaging interface that has become a pervasive part of the IT landscape since it was introduced as part of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition. Like all message-oriented middleware, JMS enables asynchronous, loosely-coupled communication between distributed computer systems. JMS has become so popular, so quickly because it provides the key capabil...

Many Aspects of Reliabilities in a Distributed Mobile Messaging Middleware over JMS

Pronto[19] is a middleware system for mobile applications with JMS messaging as a basis in both centralized and decentralized forms. Asynchronous messaging is essential to support reliable communication with mobile devices. An intelligent gateway and smart caching in Pronto support the construction of distributed messaging systems over JMS servers. The main aim of Pronto is to support a reliabl...

JMS clustering in ARJUNA message service: dependability, performance and manageability

JMS is an API specification that defines a standard way for applications to access Message-Oriented Middleware. In this short paper, we report on the ongoing work for enhancing dependability of a JMS server. We suggest that a promising approach is to use a clustered solution based on a group communication framework. The key principle that permeates the design of our clustered JMS is functional ...
