Preterm blood counts vary with sampling site.

چکیده
In preterm babies both haemoglobin and total neutrophil count values from capillary sites are significantly and variably higher than those from simultaneous arterial samples. Comparing simultaneous venous and arterial samples, the mean haemoglobin was slightly higher but the total neutrophil counts were similar.

The Impact of Blood Sampling Site on Pain Score in Preterm Infants: A Crossover Randomized Clinical Trial
Background Blood sampling is a usual and painful procedure on preterm infant. Repeating painful procedures may affect the process of normal brain development and Pain management is important for nurses. This study was conducted to evaluate and compare pain score in two sites of blood sampling in preterm infants. Materials and Methods Blood sampling is a usual and painful procedure on preterm in...
متن کاملEffect of Blood Sampling Site on the Changes in the Physiological Indices of Preterm Infants: A Crossover Clinical Trial
Background: Venipuncture is one of the most painful and common interventions in Neonatal ward. A preterm infant can not cope long-lasting physiologic stresses; therefore, the pain caused by blood sampling may change the infant’s physiologic responses to the stress. This present study aim is to investigated and compare physiologic changes (pulse rate and oxygen saturation) in two sites of blood ...
متن کاملSkin disinfection in preterm infants.
Greater care and a more thorough approach to intravenous catheter site disinfection may be important for the prevention of catheter related sepsis, especially with coagulase negative staphylocci in preterm infants. The efficacy of skin disinfection was evaluated in preterm infants using a skin swabbing technique after disinfectant exposure. In the first part of the study, 25 peripheral intravas...
متن کاملComparison of Venous and Capillary Differential Leukocyte Counts Using a Standard Hematology Analyzer and a Novel Microfluidic Impedance Cytometer
Capillary blood sampling has been identified as a potentially suitable technique for use in diagnostic testing of the full blood count (FBC) at the point-of-care (POC), for which a recent need has been highlighted. In this study we assess the accuracy of capillary blood counts and evaluate the potential of a miniaturized cytometer developed for POC testing. Differential leukocyte counts in the ...
