چکیده

The simulation of critical infrastructures (CI) can involve the use of diverse domain specific simulators that run on geographically distant sites. These diverse simulators must then be coordinated to run concurrently in order to evaluate the performance of critical infrastructures which influence each other, especially in emergency or resource-critical situations. We therefore describe the design of an adaptive communication middleware that provides reliable and real-time oneto-one and group communications for federations of CI simulators over a wide-area network (WAN). The proposed middleware is composed of mobile agent-based peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays, called virtual networks (VNets), to enable resilient, adaptive and real-time communications over unreliable and dynamic physical networks (PNets). The autonomous software agents comprising the communication middleware monitor their performance and the underlying PNet, and dynamically adapt the P2P overlay and migrate over the PNet in order to optimize communications according to the requirements of the federation and the current conditions of the PNet. Reliable communications is provided via redundancy within the communication middleware and intelligent migration of agents over the PNet. The proposed middleware integrates security methods in order to protect the communication infrastructure against attacks and provide privacy and anonymity to the participants of the federation. Experiments with an initial version of the communication middleware over a real-life networking testbed show that promising improvements can be obtained for unicast and group communications via the agent migration capability of our middleware.

A Mobile Agent Infrastructure for QoS Negotiation of Adaptive Distributed Applications

QoS-aware distributed applications such as certain Multimedia and Ubiquitous Computing applications can benefit greatly from the provision of QoS guarantees from the underlying system and middleware infrastructure. They must avoid execution glitches that affect the user’s perception of the application output. Most research in QoS support for distributed systems focuses on three aspects of QoS m...

An approach to integrating HLA federations and genetic algorithms to support automatic design evaluation for multi-agent systems

10 We propose a novel design environment for developing multi-agent systems (MASs) for ap11 plications in mobile robotics. Because emergent behavior phenomena make it next to impos12 sible to directly synthesize viable MAS designs from speci®cations, extensive simulation 13 studies are needed to evaluate these designs. Furthermore, due to the fact that the design space 14 for MASs systems is co...

Mole 3.0: A Middleware for Java-Based Mobile Software Agents

Mole is one of the first Java-based mobile agent systems. It runs on an unmodified Java virtual machine on PCs under Windows 95/NT and on workstations under several UNIX dialects. Earlier versions of Mole have provided a basic infrastructure for communication and migration of mobile agents. Version 3.0 of Mole has been strongly revised and several requests and proposals from users of the earlie...

Provision of Recovery from Host Failure for Sama Group Communication Middleware for Mobile Agents

A high speed group communication middleware can considerably improve performance of multi-agent systems. Sama is a fast and scalable group communication middleware for mobile agents. It achieves scalability and low message delivery time by dis tributing message dissemination load among all mobile agent servers. Sama uses Message Dispatcher Objects (MDOs), which are special objects on each agent...

Adaptive Neural Network Method for Consensus Tracking of High-Order Mimo Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems

This paper is concerned with the consensus tracking problem of high order MIMO nonlinear multi-agent systems. The agents must follow a leader node in presence of unknown dynamics and uncertain external disturbances. The communication network topology of agents is assumed to be a fixed undirected graph. A distributed adaptive control method is proposed to solve the consensus problem utilizing re...
