Effect of phosphorus concentration on the atomic distribution function of amorphous Pd-Ni-P alloys*

چکیده
The effect of the phosphorus concentration on the atomic distribution function in amorphous alloys (Pd50-Ni50) 100 _xpx in which x varies from 15 to 27.5 was investigated. The alloys were obtained by rapid quenching from the liquid state. The intensity of the first peak of the interference function decreases with increasing phosphorus content. The second peak has a definite shoulder on the right side for alloys low in phosphorus and this shoulder progressively disappears as the P concentration is increased. This feature was not found before in binary Ni-P alloys obtained by electrodeposition. From the atomic distribution functions it was possible to determine the metal-to-metal distances and the approximate metal-to-phosphorus distances.

Effect of Ni on Amorphization of Ti-Cu-Ni Ternary alloys Prepared by Mechanical alloying
Amorphous alloys has been taken into consideration because of their unique properties and are nominated as the future engineering materials. In this research, the effect of Ni and milling time on amorphization process and thermal stability of Ti50Cu50-xNix(x=10, 15, 25 at%) alloy system were investigated. The evolution of amorphization during milling, thermal stability and subsequent heat treat...
متن کاملHidden amorphous phase and reentrant supercooled liquid in Pd-Ni-P metallic glasses
An anomaly in differential scanning calorimetry has been reported in a number of metallic glass materials in which a broad exothermal peak was observed between the glass and crystallization temperatures. The mystery surrounding this calorimetric anomaly is epitomized by four decades long studies of Pd-Ni-P metallic glasses, arguably the best glass-forming alloys. Here we show, using a suite of ...

We describe the application of the locally-self-consistent-multiple-scattering (LSMS)[1] method to amorphous alloys. The LSMS algorithm is optimized for the Intel XP/S-150, a multiple-instruction-multiple-data parallel computer with 1024 nodes and 2 compute processors per node. The electron density at each site is determined by solving the multiple scattering equation for atoms within a specifi...
متن کاملComment on the Interpretation of the First Peak of the Rdf of Amorphous Metals
The first peak of the RDF has been calculated for the dense random packed (DRP) and Ni3P structures with a gaussian broadening of the atomic positions. It is found that the position of the broadened first peak of the RDF of DRP is 2 % greater than the hard sphere diameter. The contributions of Ni-Ni and NI-P pairs to the first peak of the RDF of amorphous Ni-P are discussed by comparing this pe...

Introduction Amorphous materials have no long-range order at the atomic length scale and show different properties as compared to typical crystalline materials. Among of them, amorphous alloys are in thermodynamically nonequilibrium, crystallized by heating and used as catalysts and catalyst precursors. Investigations on the relationships between their catalytic performances and structural chan...
