چکیده

A three-dimensional object of interest in an engineering analysis, using mesh-based computational technology, requires watertight surface geometry. However, obtaining watertight surfaces is challenging due to presence of deficiencies or artifacts such as gaps, holes etc. on the surfaces. This research note presents implementation of a volumetric approach for repairing those surfaces which otherwise could not simply be repaired using existing surface-based techniques due to the geometric and topological complexities of holes. The geometry repair approach is based on diffusion equation solved using CFD techniques based on explicit forward difference scheme in time and central difference scheme in space. An algebraic interpolation approach using coarse grid to initialize the flow field for the fine grid has been implemented to speed up solution convergence. Additionally the solver has been multi-threaded using OpenMP library to further speed up the solution process. The result of the solution process and the performance gain using multi-threading has also been demonstrated.

Filling Holes in Triangular Meshes in Engineering

In this paper, a novel hole-filling algorithm for triangular meshes is proposed. Firstly, the hole is triangulated into a set of new triangles using modified principle of minimum angle. Then the initial patching mesh is refined according to the density of vertices on boundary edges. Finally, the patching mesh is optimized via the bilateral filter to recover missed features. Experimental results...

Optimization-based Fluid Simulation on Unstructured Meshes

We present a novel approach to fluid simulation, allowing us to take into account the surface energy in a precise manner. This new approach combines a novel, topology-adaptive approach to deformable interface tracking, called the deformable simplicial complexes method (DSC) with an optimization-based, linear finite element method for solving the incompressible Euler equations. The deformable si...

A new code and methodology are introduced for solving the general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) equations in fixed background spacetimes using time-explicit, finitevolume discretization. The code has options for solving the GRMHD equations using traditional artificial-viscosity (AV) or non-oscillatory central difference (NOCD) methods, or a new extended AV (eAV) scheme using artifici...

Unstructured Computational Meshes for Subdivision Geometry of Scanned Geological Objects

This paper presents a generic approach to generation of surface and volume unstructured meshes for complex free-form objects, obtained by laser scanning. A four-stage automated procedure is proposed for discrete data sets: surface mesh extraction from Delaunay tetrahedrization of scanned points, surface mesh simplification, definition of triangular interpolating subdivision faces, Delaunay volu...

Evaluation of Fatigue Life Reduction Factors at Bolt Hole in Double Lap Bolted Joints Using Volumetric Method

In this research, the influence of bolt preload on the fatigue strength of 2024-T3 aluminium alloy double lap bolted joints has been studied experimentally and numerically. To do so, three sets of the specimens were prepared and each of them subjected to tightening torque of 1,2.5 and 5 N-m and then fatigue tests were conducted under various cyclic axial load levels. In the numerical method, th...
