چکیده

We discuss the prompt emission of the γ-ray burst (GRB) 990510 and its subsequent X-ray afterglow from 8.0 to 44.3 hrs after the prompt emission, using observations with the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor and Narrow Field Instruments on BeppoSAX. In the 40–700 keV band, GRB990510 had a fluence of ∼1.9×10−5 erg cm−2, whereas it reached a peak flux of ∼2.4× 10−6 erg cm−2 s−1. The X-ray afterglow decay light curve can be satisfactorily described by a single power law with index of −1.42 ± 0.07. Both the X-ray and optical behaviour of the afterglow can be explained by γ-ray burst debris expanding as a jet; we find that the cooling frequency is (fixed) between the optical and X-ray wavelength bands. ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS BeppoSAX confirmation of beamed afterglow emission from GRB990510

We compare the prompt X-ray (2-10 keV) emission of GRB990510 measured by the BeppoSAX Wide Field Cameras (WFC) during the burst to the X-ray afterglow detected by the BeppoSAX Narrow Field Instruments. The X-ray emission from ∼ 10 to 10 seconds after the GRB is well described by an external shock expanding in a decelerating jet, in which synchrotron radiation takes place. This model, represente...

BeppoSAX confirmation of beamed afterglow emission from GRB990510

We compare the prompt X-ray (2-10 keV) emission of GRB990510 measured by the BeppoSAXWide Field Cameras (WFC) during the burst to the X-ray afterglow detected by the BeppoSAX Narrow Field Instruments. A single power-law model for the afterglow, f(t) ∝ t, is ruled out. Provided the initial time of the afterglow is assumed to coincide with the last short pulse in the X-ray prompt event (i.e., 72 ...

Off-axis Emission from the Beamed Afterglow of Gamma Ray Bursts and a Possible Interpretation of Slowly Declining X-Ray Afterglow of GRB980425

A formula for off-axis emissions from the beamed afterglow of GRBs in a synchrotron model is derived. The formula is applied to an inhomogeneous circumstellar matter obeying n ∝ r−2 suggested for SN1998bw/GRB980425. The slow decline rate as well as the X-ray flux similar to the observed values are obtained for appropriate choice of the parameters so that the association of GRB980425 with SN1998...

Fast X-ray Transients and Gamma-ray Bursts: Constraints on Beaming

The detection of x-ray afterglows of gamma-ray burst (GRB) sources has enabled the optical discovery that GRBs are at cosmological distances, which confirms that the enormous luminosities required must produce a relativistically expanding fireball. It is not yet clear if this expansion is quasi-spherical or beamed, or if the beaming differs between the prompt GRB and afterglow, although the dif...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Search for GRB afterglows in the ROSAT all-sky survey

We report on the status of our search for Xray afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) using the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS) data. The number of potential X-ray afterglow candidates with respect to the expected number of beamed GRBs allows to constrain the relative beaming angles of GRB emission and afterglow emission at about 1-5 hrs after the GRB.
