چکیده

This paper presents a robust, automated registration algorithm, which may be applied to several types of medical images, including CTs, MRIs, Xrays, Ultrasounds and dermatological images. The proposed algorithm is intended for imaging modalities depicting primarily morphology of objects i.e. tumors, bones, cysts and lesions that are characterized by translation, scaling and rotation. An efficient deterministic algorithm is used in order to decouple these effects by transforming images into the log-polar Fourier domain. Then, the correlation coefficient function criterion is employed and the corresponding values of scaling and rotation are detected. Due to the non-linearity of the correlation coefficient function criterion and the heavy computational effort required for its full enumeration, this optimization problem is solved using an efficient simulated annealing algorithm. After the images alignment in scaling and rotation, the simulated annealing algorithm is employed again, in order to detect the remaining values of the horizontal and vertical shifting. The proposed algorithm was tested using different initialization schemes and resulted in fast convergence to the optimal solutions independently of the initial points.

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

An Automated MR Image Segmentation System Using Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network

Background: Brain tissue segmentation for delineation of 3D anatomical structures from magnetic resonance (MR) images can be used for neuro-degenerative disorders, characterizing morphological differences between subjects based on volumetric analysis of gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), but only if the obtained segmentation results are correct. Due to image arti...

Effective Strategies for ROI and Image Matching

The paper presents an exceptional four matching strategies: systematic, random, gradient and simulated annealing using diferent metrics. We consider two kinds of image matching algorithms. The first one oriented on the whole image matching where we compare corresponding pixels or chosen image characteristics. The second one is oriented on finding the region in the target image (region of intere...

DPML-Risk: An Efficient Algorithm for Image Registration

Targets and objects registration and tracking in a sequence of images play an important role in various areas. One of the methods in image registration is feature-based algorithm which is accomplished in two steps. The first step includes finding features of sensed and reference images. In this step, a scale space is used to reduce the sensitivity of detected features to the scale changes. Afterw...
