Immunohistochemical distribution of neuropeptides in the amygdaloid complex of the cat. A comparative study in mammals
نویسنده
چکیده
The distribution of several neuropeptides in the amygdaloid complex of the cat is described. Five of the neuropeptides studied (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, β-endorphin, dynorphin A (1-17), γ-melanocyte-stimulating hormone or galanin) did not show immunoreactive profiles, whereas neuropeptide Y and somatostatin displayed the widest distribution throughout the amygdaloid nuclei. The medial amygdala (medial nucleus, medial division of the central nucleus) contained the highest number of the n e u ropeptides studied, whereas the lateral nucleus displayed the lowest amount of immunoreactive profiles. In addition, the morphological data suggest the possible co-existence of several neuropeptides in the same fibers and/or cell bodies, and a comparison with previous studies on the projections of the amygdaloid nuclei in the cat allows us to speculate about the possible peptidergic content of these pathways. The distribution of the neuropeptides studied in the cat is compared with the location of the same peptides in the amygdaloid complex of other mammalian species. Finally, the possible physiological functions of the neuropeptides, as well as aspects of future research into the morphology of neuropeptides in the cat amygdala are discussed.

Reduction of cell size in amygdaloid complex of the Wistar rat embryos after oral morphine consumption
Introduction: In the present study, the effects of oral morphine consumption in pregnant female rats on the amygdaloid complex development in the embryos were investigated. Methods: Female Wistar rats weighing 250-300 g (n=15) were divided into control (n = 8) and experimental groups (n = 7). The experimental group received morphine (0.05 mg/ml) in their tap water. On the 19th day of pregnan...
متن کاملNeuropeptides in the cat amygdala.
The distribution of seven neuropeptides was studied in the cat amygdala using an indirect immunoperoxidase technique. No labeling was found for luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone or beta-endorphin (1-27). Sparse alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone-immunoreactive fibers were found in the basomedial nucleus of the amygdala, whereas a low density of fibers containing alpha-neo-endorphin was ob...
متن کاملThe mammals of Anzali Wetland, in the Southern Caspian Sea
Anzali Wetland as a listed habitat in Montreux Record, was investigated for the mammal fauna during Jan. 2015 - Jan. 2016. About 165 km of water bodies and 200 km around Anzali Wetland were patrolled, respectively. By applying different methods, such as direct observation, different signs recording, using different sampling traps, nets and camera traps, twenty mammal species were identified fro...
متن کاملThe Role of Arginine-Phenylalanine-Amide-Related Peptides in Mammalian Reproduction
Until 2000 it was believed that gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) was the sole regulator of hypophyseal gonadotropes. In 2000, the discovery of a gonadotropin inhibitory hormone (GnIH) initiated a revolution in the field of reproductive physiology. Identification of GnIH homologues in mammals, the arginine-phenylalanine- amide (RFamide)-related peptides (RFRPs), indicated a similar function...
متن کاملA Comparative Immunohistochemical Study of CD105 Expression in Peripheral and Central Giant Cell Granuloma
Introduction: Despite similar histopathological features, peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) and central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) differ in their biological behavior. PGCG and CGCG are hemorrhagic/vascular lesions, clinically and microscopically. Angiogenesis is necessary for the growth and development of lesions and affects their clinical behavior. CD105 is a useful vascular marker for...
