The regulation of DNA synthesis and mitosis in multinucleate frog eggs.
نویسنده
چکیده
The timing of DNA synthesis and mitosis in normal eggs, in activated eggs, and in eggs containing several accessory nuclei has been studied in Xenopus. DNA synthesis was followed by injecting PHjthymidine into the egg and detecting its subsequent incorporation into DNA by autoradiography. It was found that the accessory nuclei which were introduced into the egg during different phases of the cell cycle incorporated label and entered mitosis in synchrony with the resident egg and sperm nuclei if the introduced nuclei were released from the intact sperm. In eggs activated by pricking, the egg nucleus had synthesized DNA at a time when it would have done so during normal fertilization.

Modeling M-phase control in Xenopus oocyte extracts: the surveillance mechanism for unreplicated DNA.
Alternating phases of DNA synthesis and mitosis, during the first 12 cell divisions of frog embryos, are driven by autonomous cytoplasmic oscillations of M-phase promoting factor (MPF). Cell-free extracts of frog eggs provide a convenient preparation for studying the molecular machinery that generates MPF oscillations and the surveillance mechanism that normally prevents entry into mitosis unti...
متن کاملEfficient reactivation of Xenopus erythrocyte nuclei in Xenopus egg extracts.
Rapid genome replication is one of the hallmarks of the frog embryonic cell cycle. We report here that complete reactivation of quiescent somatic cell nuclei in Xenopus egg extracts depends on prior restructuring of the nuclear substrate and prior preparation of cytoplasmic extract with the highest capacity to initiate and sustain DNA synthesis. Nuclei from mature erythrocytes swell, replicate ...

A hymenial cell initial was binucleate in Coprinus cinereus but uninucleate in Volvariella bombycina. Paraphyses and facial cystidia remained binucleate in C. cinereus, but marginal cystidia were the apical cells of branches from the multinucleate gill trama. becoming swollen when gills pulled away from their connection to the stipe, and were multinucleate. In V. bombycina. all mature cystidia ...
متن کاملA new case of congenital dyserythropoietic anaemia, type III: studies of the cell cycle distribution and ultrastructure of erythroblasts and of nucleic acid synthesis in marrow cells.
The clinical and laboratory findings in an asymptomatic 19-year-old Welshman with congenital dyserythropoietic anaemia (CDA) type III are described. The blood film showed macrocytosis and red cell fragmentation and there was biochemical evidence of intravascular haemolysis. The bone marrow showed erythroid hyperplasia, megaloblastic erythropoiesis and several giant multinucleate erythroblasts. ...
متن کاملAnalysis of a generic model of eukaryotic cell-cycle regulation.
We propose a protein interaction network for the regulation of DNA synthesis and mitosis that emphasizes the universality of the regulatory system among eukaryotic cells. The idiosyncrasies of cell cycle regulation in particular organisms can be attributed, we claim, to specific settings of rate constants in the dynamic network of chemical reactions. The values of these rate constants are deter...
