چکیده

We study the large deviations behavior of systems that admit a certain form of a product distribution, which is frequently encountered both in Physics and in various information system models. First, to fix ideas, we demonstrate a simple calculation of the large deviations rate function for a single constraint (event). Under certain conditions, the behavior of this function is shown to exhibit an analogue of Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC). More interestingly, we also study the large deviations rate function associated with two constraints (and the extension to any number of constraints is conceptually straightforward). The phase diagram of this rate function is shown to exhibit as many as seven phases, and it suggests a two–dimensional generalization of the notion of BEC (or more generally, a multi– dimensional BEC). While the results are illustrated for a simple model, the underlying principles are actually rather general. We also discuss several applications and implications pertaining to information system models. Bose–Einstein Condensation in Large Deviations 2

BCS-BEC crossover in two dimensions: a Quantum Monte Carlo study

We investigate the crossover from Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superfluidity to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in a two-dimensional Fermi gas at T = 0 using the fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo method. We calculate the equation of state and the gap parameter as a function of the interaction strength, observing large deviations compared to mean-field predictions. In the BEC regime our resul...

2 7 N ov 1 99 9 BEC in Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics

We discuss the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) for an ideal gas of bosons in the framework of Tsallis's nonextensive statistical mechanics. We study the corrections to the standard BEC formulas due to a weak nonextensivity of the system. In particular, we consider three cases in the D-dimensional space: the homogeneous gas, the gas in a harmonic trap and the relativistic homogenous gas. The re...

The time-reversal test for stochastic quantum dynamics

The calculation of quantum dynamics is currently a central issue in theoretical physics, with diverse applications ranging from ultra-cold atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) to condensed matter, biology, and even astrophysics. Here we demonstrate a conceptually simple method of determining the regime of validity of stochastic simulations of unitary quantum dynamics by employing a time-rever...

Bose-Einstein Condensation for Homogeneous Interacting Systems with a One-Particle Spectral Gap

We prove rigorously the occurrence of zero-mode Bose-Einstein condensation for a class of continuous homogeneous systems of boson particles with superstable interactions. This is the first example of a translation invariant continuous Bose-system, where the existence of the Bose-Einstein condensation is proved rigorously for the case of non-trivial two-body particle interactions, provided there...
