Training-based channel estimation for multiple-antenna broadband transmissions

چکیده
This paper addresses the problem of training sequence design for multiple-antenna transmissions over quasi-static frequency-selective channels. To achieve the channel estimation minimum mean square error, the training sequences transmitted from the multiple antennas must have impulse-like auto correlation and zero cross correlation. We reduce the problem of designing multiple training sequences to the much easier and well-understood problem of designing a single training sequence with impulse-like auto correlation. To this end, we propose to encode the training symbols with a space–time code, that may be the same or different from the space–time code that encodes the information symbols. Optimal sequences do not exist for all training sequence lengths and constellation alphabets. We also propose a method to easily identify training sequences that belong to a standard 2 -PSK constellation for an arbitrary training sequence length and an arbitrary number of unknown channel taps. Performance bounds derived indicate that these sequences achieve near-optimum performance.

Finite-alphabet constant-amplitude training sequence for multiple-antenna broadband transmissions
Abstract – We propose a method to identify training sequences for multiple-antenna transmissions over quasi-static frequencyselective channels. These sequences are constructed to belong to a standard constant-amplitude -PSK constellation (such as BPSK, QPSK etc) to simplify the transmitter/receiver implementation. Many practical systems use training of predetermined length. Optimal sequences do...
متن کاملEnergy efficient estimation of a MIMO channel
Exploiting the benefits of multiple antenna technologies is strongly conditioned on knowledge of the wireless channel that affects the transmissions. To this end, various channel estimation algorithms have been proposed in the literature for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. These algorithms are typically studied from a perspective that does not consider constraints on the energy ...

Integrating the strengths of multicarrier (MC) modulation and code division multiple access (CDMA), MC-CDMA systems are of great interest for future broadband transmissions. This paper considers the problem of channel identification and signal combining/detection schemes for MC-CDMA systems equipped with multiple transmit antennas and space-time (ST) coding. In particular, a subspace-based blin...
متن کاملPrecoding and Distributed Stbc for Asynchronous Cooperative Diversity
Formobile users without antenna arrays, transmission diversity can be achieved with cooperative spacetime encoded transmissions. In this paper, a new precoding frame-based scheme with packet-wise encoding is proposed. This precoding is based on the addition of a cyclic prefix, which is overhead, so we put more information in it by implementing this cyclic prefix as a training sequence. This sch...
متن کاملBeamforming Using Tapped Delay Line Filters for Broadband Cdma Systems
We investigate the performance of uncoded uplink transmissions in a broadband code division multiple access (CDMA) system using a tapped delay line (TDL) antenna array. First, the weights of a TDL antenna array are derived for broadband CDMA. Using these weights, we perform simulations to demonstration how TDL antenna arrays can help reduce multi-access interference (MAI), allow the use of spre...
