Title: a Program for Sustained Improvement in Preventing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia in an Intensive Care Setting

چکیده
The manuscript has significantly improved after being revised. Most raised issues have now been clarified. Nevertheless, it needs some minor essential revisions, which are mentioned below: In the Abstract Results section: “We found VAP rates of 1.3 and 2.0 per 1,000 ventilator days respectively in 2009 and 2010, achieving zero incidence of VAP during 12 months, with a VAP bundle compliance over 90%” It is probably a sentence problem, but by reading this, it seems like you had a period of 12 months where there was no VAP, and in fact, there is no data to support this and I don't think it is what you mean... I suggest that you change the sentence to “...achieving zero incidence of VAP several times during 12 months, whenever VAP bundle compliance was over 90%” But in the end, it is only a suggestion and perhaps an interpretation issue (which may happen to another one reading the paper).

Strategies for the Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in the Intensive Care Units: A Review
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) accounts for 80%-90% of hospital-acquired pneumonia cases in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). VAP occurs 48-72 hours after intubation, and is observed in 27%-29% of patients with endotracheal tube, and its risk increases with the increase in the duration of mechanical ventilation. In this review study, papers published from 1996-2018 were used to investigate st...
متن کاملعنوان: Impact of Care Program on Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Incidence: A Clinical Trial
چکیده: Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the common problems in patients who are under mechanical ventilation and increases the hospitalization duration and treatment expenses. The current study was conducted to determine the impact of a care program on VAP. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on intubated patients who were under mechanical ventilation in Intens...
متن کاملA program for sustained improvement in preventing ventilator associated pneumonia in an intensive care setting
BACKGROUND Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a common infection in the intensive care unit (ICU) and associated with a high mortality. METHODS A quasi-experimental study was conducted in a medical-surgical ICU. Multiple interventions to optimize VAP prevention were performed from October 2008 to December 2010. All of these processes, including the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's...
متن کاملNurses’ knowledge of evidence- based guidelines for preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia in intensive care units
Background and Purpose: Implementing the guidelines to prevent VAP has been shown to have a significant effect on reducing the incidence of VAP. Studies indicate that ICU staff have poor knowledge and low implementation rate of the standard preventive measures related to VAP. The present study aims to evaluate the knowledge of nurses in the intensive care unit in University hospitals of Sari. ...

Background: Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia is the most important cause of mortality of nosocomial infections. Still incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia and its related risk factors in routine nursing care in the intensive care unit has not been studied. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of Ventilator-Associated in intensive care units and its relationship with risk ...
متن کاملReview Paper: The Bed Incline and Prevention of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia
Background: Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is the most common nosocomial (hospital acquired) infection among patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. It increases mortality rate, duration of mechanical intubated ventilation, and hospitalization in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs). This review study aims to determine the proper gradient of a hospital bed in preventing VAP in patients ho...
