Nonextensivity in turbulence in rotating two-dimensional and three-dimensional flows

چکیده
Our experiments on turbulent flow in a rotating annulus yield probability distribution functions (PDFs) for velocity increments δv( ), where is the separation between points. We fit these PDFs to a form derived for turbulent flows by Beck, who used the Tsallis nonextensive statistical mechanics formalism. For slow rotation rates, we find that the fit parameter q is 1.25 for small . At large , q decreases to unity, the value corresponding to the usual Boltzmann–Gibbs statistics. These results agree with those previously measured in experiments on Couette–Taylor turbulence. However, with rapid rotation of the annulus, the turbulent flow becomes strongly two-dimensional (2D) rather than three-dimensional (3D), and we find q = 1.32 ± 0.04, independent of . This suggests that the coherent structures (vortices), which are a source of intermittency, are important at all length scales in the 2D case. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Three-dimensional characteristic approach for incompressible thermo-flows and influence of artificial compressibility parameter
In this paper the characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows with heat transfer are obtained along with artificial compressibility of Chorin. At first, compatibility equations and pseudo characteristics for three-dimensional flows are derived from five governing equations (continuity equation, Momentum equations in three directions, and energy equation) and then results ...
متن کاملApplication of the Schwarz-Christoffel Transformation in Solving Two-Dimensional Turbulent Flows in Complex Geometries
In this paper, two-dimensional turbulent flows in different and complex geometries are simulated by using an accurate grid generation method. In order to analyze the fluid flow, numerical solution of the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations are solved using CFD techniques. Considering the complexity of the physical geometry, conformal mapping is used to generate an orthogonal grid by means of...

This paper is presented to study the combustion process and emissions in a direct injection diesel engine. Computations are carried out using a three-dimensional model for flows, sprays, combustion and emissions in Diesel engines. Interactions between combustion and emissions with flow field are considered and it is shown that soot mass fraction increases at regions with low turbulence inten...
متن کاملNonlinear determinism in time series measurements of two-dimensional turbulence
Experiments on two-dimensional and three-dimensional turbulent flows in a rotating annulus are analyzed using linear and nonlinear time series predictors. The models are used to predict the time series, a time S ahead and to calculate the velocity increment uS = u(sn + S) − u(sn) between the current value of the time series sn and a point time S apart. For two-dimensional flow, the nonlinear mo...
متن کاملNumerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models
There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...
