A one-bit swap object using test-and-sets and a max register

چکیده
We describe a linearizable, wait-free implementation of a one-bit swap object from a single max register and an unbounded array of testand-set bits. Each swap operation takes at most three steps. Using standard randomized constructions, the max register and test-and-set bits can be replaced by read-write registers, at the price of raising the cost of a swap operation to an expected O(max(logn, min(log t, n))) steps, where t is the number of times the swap object has previously changed its value and n is the number of processes.

Bit Swapping Linear Feedback Shift Register For Low Power Application Using 130nm Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor Technology (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Bit swapping linear feedback shift register (BS-LFSR) is employed in a conventional linear feedback shirt register (LFSR) to reduce its power dissipation and enhance its performance. In this paper, an enhanced BS-LFSR for low power application is proposed. To achieve low power dissipation, the proposed BS-LFSR introduced the stacking technique to reduce leakage current. In addition, three diffe...
متن کاملIs Compare-and-Swap Really Necessary?
The consensus number of a synchronization primitive, such as compare-and-swap or fetch-and-add, is the maximum number of processes n among which binary consensus can be solved by using read-write registers and registers supporting the synchronization primitive. As per Herlihy’s seminal result, any synchronization primitive with consensus number n can be used to construct a wait-free and lineari...

The main purpose of having intermediate patt...
متن کامل(Almost) All Objects Are Universal in Message Passing Systems
This paper shows that all shared atomic object types that can solve consensus among k > 1 processes have the same weakest failure detector in a message passing system with process crash failures. In such a system, object types such as test-and-set, fetch-and-add, and queue, known to have weak synchronization power in a shared memory system are thus, in a precise sense, equivalent to universal t...
