Igr J12580+0134: the First Tidal Disruption Event with an Off-beam Relativistic Jet

چکیده
Supermassive black holes (SMBHs) can capture and tidally disrupt stars or substellar objects orbiting nearby. The detections of Sw J1644+57-like events suggest that at least some TDEs can launch a relativistic jet beaming toward Earth. A natural expectation would be the existence of TDEs with a relativistic jet beaming away from Earth. The nearby TDE candidate IGR J12580+0134 provides new insights into the jet phenomenon. Combining several constraints, we find that the event invokes a 8−40 Jupiter mass object tidally disrupted by a M 3 10 1.8 10 5 7 – ☉ ́ ́ SMBH. Recently, a bright radio transient was discovered by Irwin et al. in association with IGR J12580+0134. We perform detailed modeling of the event based on a numerical jet model previously developed for the radio emission of Sw J1644+57. We find that the radio data of IGR J12580+0134 can be interpreted within an external forward shock model in the Newtonian regime. Using Sw J1644+57 as a template and properly correcting for its luminosity, we argue that the observed X-ray flux in early times is too faint to allow an on-beam relativistic jet unless the Lorentz factor is very small. Rather, the X-ray emission is likely from the disk or corona near the black hole. From various constraints, we find that the data are consistent with an off-beam relativistic jet with a viewing angle of 30 , obs o q and an initial Lorentz factor of j G a few. This scenario can readily be tested in the upcoming very long baseline interferometry observations.

Hydrodynamic Interactions of Relativistic Extragalactic Jets with Dense Clouds
We have studied three-dimensional hydrodynamic interactions of relativistic extragalactic jets with two-phase ambient media. These jets propagate through a denser homogeneous gas and then impact clouds with densities 100 to 1000 times higher than the initial beam density. The deflection angle of the jet is influenced more by the density contrast of the cloud than by the beam Mach number of the ...

We show that there is no universal law describing how the spectra and lumi-nosity of synchrotron and inverse Compton radiation from relativistic jets change with increasing observation angle. Instead, the physics of particle acceleration leaves pronounced imprints in the observed spectra and allows for a freedom in numerous modifications of them. The impact of these effects is the largest for h...
متن کاملHigh-energy emission from off-axis relativistic jets
We analyze how the spectrum of synchrotron and inverse Compton radiation from a narrow relativistic jet changes with the observation angle. It is shown that diversity of acceleration mechanisms (in particular, taking the converter mechanism (Derishev et al. 2003) into account) allows for numerous modifications of the observed spectrum. In general, the off-axis emission in GeV-TeV energy range a...
متن کاملNon - thermal pair model for the radio - galaxy Centaurus A
In this letter we consider the production of hard Xray spectrum of the radio galaxy Centaurus A by a relativistic electron-positron beam scattering soft photons coming from an accretion disk. The spectral break of order of 0.7 observed at ∼ 120 keV in the 1991 high emission state is explained by γ−γ absorption of soft gamma-ray photons. The misaligned nature of the relativistic jet explains a r...
متن کاملA possible relativistic jetted outburst from a massive black hole fed by a tidally disrupted star.
Gas accretion onto some massive black holes (MBHs) at the centers of galaxies actively powers luminous emission, but most MBHs are considered dormant. Occasionally, a star passing too near an MBH is torn apart by gravitational forces, leading to a bright tidal disruption flare (TDF). Although the high-energy transient Sw 1644+57 initially displayed none of the theoretically anticipated (nor pre...
