چکیده

Water masers around an AGB star, IRC+60169, were observed at four epochs using the Japanese VLBI networks. The distribution of the maser features is limited in a thick-shell region, which has inner and outer expansion velocities of 7 km s and 14 km s at radii of 25 mas and 120 mas, respectively. The distribution of the red-shifted features exhibits a ring-like structure, the diameter of which is 30 mas, and corresponds to the inner radius of the maser shell. This implies that dense gas around the star obscures red-shifted emission. Although a position–radial velocity diagram for the maser features is consistent with a spherical shell model, the relative proper motions do not indicate an expansion motion of the shell. A remarkable property has been found that is a possible periodic change of the alignment pattern of water maser spots.

The spatial and velocity structure of circumstellar water masers

We report observations with the VLA of 22 GHz H2O maser emission in the circumstellar envelopes of 11 late-type stars. We model the maser emission towards six of them (IRC +60169, R Crt, U Her, RX Boo, R LMi, and R Cas) with a computer program we have developed, that fits threedimensional Gaussian sources (in position and velocity) to the measured intensity distribution. This approach to the pr...

First VLBI mapping of a rare SiO isotopic substitution

We report the first VLBI map of the 7 mm v=0 J=1–0 maser line of the 29 SiO isotopic substitution in the long period variable star IRC +10011. We have found that this maser emission is composed of multiple features distributed in an incomplete ring, suggesting that this maser is also amplified tangentially as already proposed in other SiO circumstellar masers. We present also the results for so...

First VLBI mapping of circumstellar 29 SiO maser emission

We report the first VLBI map of the v=0 J=1–0 maser line of 29 SiO in the long-period variable star IRC +10011. We have found that this maser emission is composed of multiple spots distributed in an incomplete ring, suggesting that this maser is also amplified tangentially, as already proposed in other SiO circumstellar masers. We present also VLBI maps for the 7 mm 28 SiO v=1 and 2 J=1–0 and t...

Circumstellar masers

Circumstellar masers are unique tools for probing the envelopes around low mass dying stars using VLBI. In this contribution I briefly review the status of our knowledge on these emissions, especially focusing on the latest results obtained by means of VLBI observations. I also outline some of the new windows that will open for VLBI maser research thanks to the upcoming new instrumentation.

Astrometry of Circumstellar Masers

The circumstellar masers around evolved stars offer an interesting possibility to measure stellar parameters through VLBI astrometry. In this paper the application of this technique is discussed, including the accuracy and the uncertainties of the method. The different maser species (OH, H2O, SiO) have slightly different characteristics and applications. This paper does not concern astrometry o...
